About this product

Product Information

In this unique mobster movie, Scott Baio heads up a prepubescent cast as the title character, a child gangster determined to rule over New York City. Instead of throwing fists or bullets, the Prohibition-era kiddie mobsters sling confections at one another. When Bugsy learns that a rival gang has developed a secret weapon capable of firing sweets as quick as a machine gun shoots bullets, he sets out to heist the high-tech tart-launcher.BUGSY MALONE, director Alan Parker's first feature, cleverly spoofs the rich, cliché-ridden history of films about organized crime while lightly mocking the childlike, selfish traits of grown-ups. The engaging silliness is periodically spirited forward by several song-and-dance numbers composed by bubblegum pop maestro Paul Williams.

  • Great Family Musical, Young Jodie Foster

This cheesy 1970s musical tells the story of gang warfare in 1930s Chicago and the one-upmanship between a small-time city gangster (Fat Sam) and his wealthy, well-connected rival, who keeps upping the ante with better weapons. But the plot's not important. Instead, it's all about the gimmick: the entire cast is played by children and teenagers, some of whom are quite talented. The music is by Paul Williams, and it's terrific, although all the singing is dubbed. A very young Jodie Foster plays Tallulah the nightclub vamp; Scott Baio is the hero, Bugsy, who comes to Fat Sam's rescue; Florrie Dugger is the beautiful but especially wooden love interest who's just trying to break into show business. The whipped-cream-coated final fight scene is a classic. Don't overthink the symbolism of the ...

  • Wow! A humorous side to the mafia life through a youngster's imagination.

The first time I saw this movie was at my inlaws and it was what the girls who had picked it out of grandma and grandpa's library. This was back in 1988. My son was about 8 months old and the girls-his cousins-were 7 and 5. I thought the movie was a new release at the time. But I do believe it came out in the late 70's. I have such fond memories of this event-good laughs, a little educated in the gangster/mafia life. Complete kick in the pants, very cute, and at the same time realizing how Jodie and Scott were growing up at the same time I was. Now, I have a 2 year old grand daughter, and a newborn grand daughter from my son and his wife. Whom are doing well in life and remind me of the fun I had back in my day. Don't get me wrong, I'm still having fun. But one of the things I had ...

  • Bugsy Malone

This movie, if you grew up in the 1970s as I did, will take you back to your childhood. I had not seen it in 20 years and when I started watching it I realized I remembered every song. Scott Baio does a fantastic job in the title roll of Bugsy. This is a gangster flick where every character is played by a child. There is no foul language, and it is a movie that can be shared with your children no matter what age. Do yourself a favor, and add this title to your collection. It brings a smile to every face in the room.

  • Awesome product! Great value for the money!

Great buy, now my kids can watch the movies that in grew up with. Bugsy Malone was one of the best and it came fast and in great shape even though it is from 1981. I had to buy is movie on VHS because it is hard to find on DVD and the DVD copies come from out of the country.
