    not the remake, fortunately

more true to the original story/legend, than the remake. the Green Knight is NOT a talking tree. locations filmed were actual castles. the costumes appreared period correct and the armorer was the same as who worked on Excalibur, which can be seen in the type of plate armor used, Terry English. the only issue was the aspect ration, formatted to fit this screen, 4:3, not widescreens

    More for nostalgia

I saw this movie originally when I was my son's age. He is 16 & is named Gavin after Sir Gawain, King Arthur's noblest knight. It was originally a long epic poem, has been translated by J.R.R. Tolkien from Old English into modern English & is, I believe, one of the oldest (if not the oldest) written poems. I've read it in both old & new English. Sean Connery & the rest of the cast does a good job bringing the poem to life. It is definitely dated & not for the younger generations. I prefer the classics. I love the John Carter & Conan series, the hollow earth sagas, Tarzan (the original), the Time Machine & many other classics. I read this when I was 16 & loved it so much that when my son was born in 1999 (12 years later) I named him after one of my earliest heroes. It was better than ...

  • So bad it's good.

There are two ways to categorize farcical movies: movies that know they are farcical and movies that are farcical and don't know it. This one is the latter. Connery has never been known for quality control in the roles he takes, and this movie certainly holds with that, "I'll act in any film for enough money" mentality. The homo-eroticism evident in the film is comical, the crowd of extras were apparently gathered at a homeless shelter, and the special effects are immeasurably bad/hilarious. This is a terrible film that has absolutely no idea it's as bad as it is, with acting to match. Miles O'Keefe in tights is an image that electrotherapy won't be able to expunge from my brain, Arthur is a gerontological train-wreck (the aged Trevor Howard), and Golan-Globus productions has really ...

  • Fantastic Fantasy

This film is one of the all time under rated & unfortunately best kept secret of all fantasy films. In a time when stories had to be told without CGI, the personal performances & wonderful scenes & extraordinary costumes in this story will keep you interested 'till the final moments. It's truly timeless & for all ages.
