About this product

Product Information

The Forerunner 101 offers athletes and recreational walkers and runners an entry-level personal training device with GPS. It has the same features as the Forerunner 201, but operates on two AAA batteries. The Forerunner 101 stores lap histories for up to two years to provide an archive of workout performance over time. Users can retrieve lap data for previous workouts by date, week, month, or over a specific time interval. For business travelers who want to train on the road, the Forerunner 101 also doubles as a navigator. Users can mark their hotel as a specific location, see their current position on the plotter display, and follow an electronic breadcrumb trail back to their starting point.

  • functional but not stylish good price

I was working with someone that got the 305. I thought it was a good idea but forking out $250 or more was kinda crazy when the 101 gave me the same results. Granted it doesn't look attractive and doesn't link to a computer or have a heart rate monitor. I would have used the computer link however I have a MAC and so far they haven't made software that works with the 305 yet. Unless you purchase more programs like parallels and then another os. I had a heart rate monitor in the past and found I didn't like wearing it and then never referenced the info. As for the 101. Its a beginner running GPS a good way to know if you would use the 305. It has a Map so its hard to get lost in trail though I have read you can lose the signal in tall trees or forested areas. Also a running assistant that ...

  • Great for the Price

I really like the Forerunner 101, especially for way under $100 on Ebay. The GPS occasionally loses signal but the Garmin quickly fills in the time and distance when it returns. Usually under heavy tree cover is where I lose it but it's only momentary. Also, you will not like this device if you need to know your current pace as you run. There seems to be a long delay for the pace readout to catch up to you. But when you are finished you will have a time, distance, and pace figure that seems to be legit. The history feature is really cool as well, and the fact that I don't have to remember to charge the battery was a huge selling point for me. For the ultra-serious stat worshiping runner, this may not be for you. If you just need distance, time, and a finishing pace, you can't beat the ...

  • Garmin 101

I got this particular model for a couple of reasons. The first was the price. It is the cheapest in the series and is the same as the 201 with the only exception being it has a replaceable battery versus one that you have to charge. I am not one who remembers to charge things so this was more of a self preservation move. It seems to take a bit longer than the 305 to find a GPS signal, but once it is locked in I have no problem keeping it. This model does everything stated and is easy to use. The screen is big and readable and the buttons can be used while running. All in all for the money this products exceeds my expectations.

  • Impressed and very happy

I bought this Garmin running GPS for my son-in-law. He reports to me that it works great, keeps track of his runs, and is very helpful and reliable. He seems very satisfied with it. It is a little bulky but has a velcro band that is easy to adjust. The price was right and it looked good. That is why I purchased this model.

  • Garmin Forerunner keeps your exercise program on track

The Garmin Forerunner GPS Receiver keeps you in tune with your place in time. It is a reliable companion whether hiking, biking or jogging. Special features include a crumb trail function that places markers to ensure you can match your steps back to your original location if you are on foreign soil. The GPS technology is excellent. Finally, a way to get your money's worth in the taxes you pay. I strongly recommend this product to any camper or outdoor enthusiast alike. Strap the Forerunner 101 on, hit the trail and you will never be lost again. 5 out of 5. All thrills, no frills, and right on target.
