    January, 1957. Art Pepper, with his horn broken, not having played for more than 2 weeks, is faced with a huge challenge, till the last moment unknown to him- recording an album with THE rhythm section of those days, Miles Davis' co-players, the pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers and Phillie Jo Jones on drums. The Davis' band just played a gig there and Pepper's manager decided to book them for one recording session, feeling that Art is yet to play with someone of the same genius as he was. It was, though, in order to prevent anxiety and nervousness, kept in secret and Art got to know about it only a short time before the session was to start.
