About this product

Product Information

Def Jam: Fight for NY is a 3-D fighting game released and published by Electronic Arts. It debuted in September 2004 on the Sony PlayStation 2. In this video game, you can choose from 40 real-life hip-hop celebrities to star in a wrestling battle. The winner of the tournament is crowned the ruler of the underground culture in New York. It sounds simple, but every level, opponent, and partner offers new obstacles and difficulties for players. To be the ultimate Def Jam champ, players have to save the girl, win the tournament, and not let the environment take them out. Def Jam: Fight for NY for the PS2 is the sequel to Def Jam Vendetta. Both games are from World Wresting Entertainment. Players take on the avatar of a ruthless street fighter who wants to be the leader of the hip-hop genre underground scene. Gamers will have access to a new vehicle and over a dozen different weapons. Interactive environments, five style choices, and the ability to make unique optimizations keep the game engaging. Available combat styles include kickboxing, street fighting, submission fighting, martial arts, and old-fashioned wrestling. The only way to win a fight is through knockout. You can also finish an opponent during a submission match, but the contender must be in the submission pose until the health bar runs out. If a gamer lets their opponent out of the submission pose too soon, the fight will continue. If a street fighter wishes, they can choose three of the styles above to create a unique hybrid move specific for play in the game. Hybrid moves create fascinating and unique finishing moves that earn extra points. The action takes place in different story scenarios from back alleys to basements to clubs. In total, there are 22 different venues for fights in this Def Jam game. Each of the venues is completely unique, and many of the rowdy battle spots have unexpected twists. In some spots, spectators might try to get involved. In others, you'll face relentless heckling from onlookers. You can fight your battles and unlock help from familiar faces from the Def Jam record label. Cameos include appearances by Carmen Electra, Flava Fav, Ludacris, Method Man, Ghostface, Lil Kim, Snoop Dogg, Redman, Freeway, Busta Rhymes, Xzibit, Fat Joe, Sean Paul, Slick Rick, Ice T, and many others. In Def Jam: Fight for NY, you'll get the chance to unlock amazing jewelry, clothes, and accessories. Not only can you customize jewelry for your avatar, but you can also choose a unique outfit with tattoos, bling, and licensed gear. Basic items are available as soon as you begin the game. As you progress, more gear is offered. As with other role-playing games, progressing through the game unlocks better clothing choices. The game also has a damsel in distress in the story. She needs to be rescued from an elusive villain only known as Sticky Fingaz.

    Def Jam FFNY review

Nowhere worth the price the scalpers are charging for it but I will always have fun playing it. I still think this game is as rare as they make it out to be. It also was in great condition but the packaging was too tightly wrapped.

    Scratches on disc

Fun game & was shipped immediately. I noticed a few minor scratches on the disc which did not appear to be a problem until I started playing story mode. Right after the Ice-T fight the game gets stuck on a loading screen and I’ve tried restarting story mode multiple times to no avail. For the $70 price tag I’m disappointed I’m not getting the full experience. Had to buy another copy of Def Jam Fight For New York.

  • Rap, Hip-Hop and Wrestling!!!

Reviewed for Big Boss Games by: P.K. The Green It's nice when a company has faith in it's unique franchises. And with a company as big as E.A., you would have faith too. I'm talking about Def Jam: Fight for NY. Boasting some of the biggest names in both hip-hop fashion and talent (who lend their voices to the game) really adds to the authenticity of the culture the game portrays. The fighting engine is easily compared to the classic wrestling titles on the N64. This is a good thing, as some will say these are some of the best games of the genre. There are 5 fighting styles, which as you progress, allow mixing between them. With unlockable's including wrestlers, venues, and merchandise, there is plenty to keep you playing. Fans of fighters and hip-hop ...

  • Street Fight!!!

Pros + Not just another wrestling game. + More immersive than the first. + Tons of recognizable celebrities you can either choose to be or beat down. Cons - It's all about the rappers but at least it's not about rapping. - Lots of button-mashing. - No online play. Comments Fight for NY continues the Def Jam series & gives your standard wrestling games a run for their money with it's trademark street style fighting mixed with wrestling. And you don't have to see grown men wearing spandex. Def Jam is also much faster paced than any other wrestling game out there & the finishing moves are amazing. Verdict Must play for any wrestling fan. Must have for any fan of fighting games.

  • Great fighter game, with great gameplay.

I first played this game at a friends house when it had recently come out, around 2004. 5 year later, I find myself still loving it, and finding more ways to enjoy it. Being able to chose your fighting style, definitely adds a big amount to the game, that the original Vendetta was missing. What style(s) you choose, and the order you choose them, really effect the way you have to use them to your advantage to defeat your opponent. Every opponent has there distinct personality. Even fighters with the same fighting style, use them differently, and have different levels of how aggressive they are towards you. Some are on you right away, other let the fight come to them. The many different venues you have to fight in, make it interesting. Some have the crowd which gets in on the ...
