Good title, beautiful opening, not just for Chiristmas.

This in my favorite Christmas movie, but I can watch it anytime. It's hilarious, poignant and heartwarming. I have a ton of favorite scenes in this well written, well acted, hysterically funny film.

  • Up Down Up Down Up Down Up Down

This really is a good movie. The casting is perfect. The characters in this movie have got to be some of the wackiest I've ever seen. Where else could you see a pot smoking, brownie eating, sweetheart of a father named Kelly? Or how how about a gay, deaf son who is in the process of trying to adopt a child with his African American life partner who has a flare for cooking? That's just the beginning. (Don't want to give too much away!) Anyways, the only thing I didn't like about this movie is the up down, high low factor. Along with the craziness of this offbeat family there is a serious, more like sad story as well. They remind of this fact all the way through. They make you laugh hysterically. Then, BOOM! They kick you in the gut. Laugh! BOOM! Laugh! BOOM! It's almost like ...

  • Not What I Expected

Last year my husband and I purchased this film after reading several of its favorable reviews. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to any of them. It's general theme is of a man bringing his fiancee home to meet his family at Christmas during which they spend the entire time making fun of her while she compulsively obsesses over making a good impression. Of course, everything goes wrong as in well-crafted comedies although it just doesn't work in this Christmas farce. The family seems to have a general condescending attitude right from the first meeting, and who needs Diane Keaton dying of breast cancer in a holiday movie? The only saving grace is Luke Wilson whose kind gestures and eventual attraction towards the badly-shaken fiancee is such good acting that you're almost ...

  • The Family Stone Learns to Accept People

Acceptance and tolerance are some of the positive themes in this film. It is an enjoyable holiday film. I liked it but felt the gay characters were miscast and not very believable as a couple. But, the film does have some good performances and is worth watching. It isn't really as funny as the trailers make it out to be though. It's more a drama with some comedy. It's a little sad and thought provoking at times. I thought Luke Wilson and Sarah Jessica Parker were great in it. The scenes at the bar were kind of funny. If you have an open mind, you might like this movie.
