Seller did an poor job packing a keyboard in a thin vanilla bubble wrap envelope, expecting that to be sufficient to protect a $75 item in the mail. Item arrived broken, with cracks in multiple places of the frame. Seller was quick to give a full refund, but the $19 shipping price should have been more than enough for the shipper to properly package the item in a box. The sellers judgement for what is proper packing is poor.

Small compact voice recorder with excellent sound quality

I recorded my father talking about his young days and his service in the Royal Navy during WW II with excellent results. Now replaying the recording is like sitting in the room again listening to him. What is really good is that his great grandchildren will be able to listen to him when they are adults. This recorder is simple to use and would be excellent for students recording lectures (with lecturers permission) for later review and absorption. With the software available it is easy to transfer the recording to a computer for backup and editing.

  • Olympus DS 40

The Olympus DS 40 digital voice recorder is an excellent recorder. It's sensitivity to the recorded voice gives an impression to a listener as if the speaker is actually speaking right on the recorder's mic. Whether the voice is recorded using Stereo or Mono, the produced sound quality is surprisingly good even though a lesser chosen quality is used to record sounds. This digital recorder has the capability to slow down playback speed in order to listen to proper pronounciation of words from the speaker. The recorder can also do a fast playback, but I just don't see the point of this function. This recorder has a digital flash memory of 512 MB, which allows to record sounds in extra high quality for 8 hours and so (see manual). The reason I bought the 512MB version of this recorder ...

  • Olympus DS40 digital voice recorder

This little recorder is excellent. The built in speaker is adequate. The high quality output plays very clearly through an external device such as a radio. The DSS software works fine to transfer files to your computer and even allows configuration of the recorder itself. The output files play very well using your computer. There is an optional voice prompt built in to the recorder to assist the user. The recorder's menu screen is clear with logical easy to navigate instruction. The DS40 recorder will get you up and running right away with lots of capability to explore later. I like it. Forget about cassette tapes! By the way, you can record your vinyl records direct to this recorder. Get an RCA phono to stereo plug to make the connection. I used a Philips GA-212 turntable with ...

  • The Best

This is the second DS-40 recorder I have bought because I liked it so much. I keep one in my backpack and one in my locker at school. When I know I will miss a class I loan it to a friend and don't miss a thing. It is simple to use, simple to upload, compact, good on batteries, and has excellent sound quality. It has three sound settings and unlike a lot of recorders, these settings make a huge difference so use the appropriate one. When I use the "lecture" setting it does a great job of picking up the professor's voice even though I am recording in a big auditorium. There is a guy on one of my classes who uses a super expensive mic to record directly to his laptop and his recordings sound no better then mine.

  • just perfect

The olympus ds40 is so much better than the Sony trash. The Sony's recordings you had to hold the recorder to your ear to hear, but the Olympus, well, you can hear things when you record while its in your pants pocket. Three levels of mic sensitivity to choose from. Should be an easy choice since Olympus is the only one that lists the sensitivity ratings in the specs. Just like with their earbuds, I guess Sony makes such poor performers that they dare not list all the specs on their products. Sony use to be top notch. Not now.
