The Blu-ray shipped from China. So, the it took a little bit to arrive. The Blu-ray is the complete series of the Venture Bros, so a large case with several disc. It showed up and was brand new, as advertised. Unfortunately, some of the prongs that hold the disc were broken. Maybe during shipping. Maybe just a bad case. The disc were undamaged, but one was loose and couldn't be attached. I informed the seller and they sent me a new case! Very happy. I absolutely recommend.

War and Remembrance Complete Miniseries - Strengths and Weaknesses
Terrific 12 DVD version of the epic 1988 miniseries. The very last of the big budget, multi night, veteran character actor based miniseries. Tremendously entertaining with memorable characters obviously based on real World War Ii personalities as well as historically authentic recreations of Hitler, Stalin and Roosevelt. Great value for the price. My only criticism is that some of the actors were 15-20 years too old for their roles, and looked it. Robert Mitchum especially turned in a good performance but he was 64 in real life while his character was supposed to be about 45. It took me out of the show for a while until I suspended disbelief and enjoyed this great series for what it is: An epic, mostly successful recreation of World War II causes, leading figures, key battles and ... Good followup to the Winds of War
There was never any question that I liked the story. I haven't watched the whole series yet (I have watched the series before from the library). I watched a few selected DVDs to make sure it worked OK, correct format, etcv. The picture is fairly grainy, but good enough for my purposes. I wish it was a little better quality. But, I can live with it.

Great Mini-Series, all that I remember and more!
Seeing how it's been almost thirty years since I saw this, I can't believe how well it's held up! I miss the original actors from the first series Winds of War, but the new ones add a different dimension. I really enjoyed watching the tension between the characters and the action during the war scenes. Robert Mitchum and Polly Bergen really make it all work. It's always great to see them on screen. Watching it now makes me wonder what would have happened if there would have been a third book. Buy this you'll enjoy it if you're a fan of World War II literature. Superb Sequel to Winds of War
Herman Wouk's powerful, sweeping epic of WWII continues without a hiccup, although a few of the roles have been cast with different actors. Battle scenes are vivid and intense. The human stories play out against this backdrop and somehow avoid (for the most part) soap opera cliches and manipulation. The movies of Winds of War and War and Remembrance make me want to read the books again.

A extremely well done series that is a must buy for so many reasons.
As one who has been in combat since 1970 I can tell you with the highest level of honour, that this miniseries, along with the "Winds of War" are exceptional. While not totally accurate with their history, these film sets are the best I have ever seen. They rank right there with John Ford and Ken Burns. The script was clearly worked on for a long time as they got the essence of the two books very well. The acting was exceptional as was the attention to detail. You will feel like you are a part of the battles and more, you will understand more of WW ll then any other film can give you. Many say it is too long. Well people, wars are long. So, to recount them accurately is takes time. I was there in the film. I felt the emotions, I did the fighting, I was at the camps of horror. It ... In this series we see Hitler far more accurately then ever before. He was a serious mental case and the actor who played that role had a hard job and he pulled it off extremely well. Hitler helped end the war with his opening a second front when he shouldn't have, not paying to his generals and admirals, not deploying troops,supplies, tanks when he should have and more. This was well treated in series. If you want films that have exception adaptions, acting, musical score, a greater understanding of war and the horrors of this war, then this is the series to buy. It is expensive however in the end it is cheaper as you won't need to buy any more films on WW ll. I truly enjoyed it. Not for the War but for how it comes together. It is like a living thing you are in. It is well worth the money spend on the TWO miniseries as you will watch them again and again and each time seeing it in a different way, always learning more I used them to teach WW ll.
