Perfect for the everyman!
The scanner works admirably, easily scans a full page but will not scan past 11" in length as far as I can tell. The default scan setting is 300dpi with the ability to tap the one main button into 600dpi mode. Software is available on the somewhat confusing doxie website, but the software is critical to making the experience. Wifi - the wifi button creates an ad hoc network to which you must attach your laptop in order to transfer scans to the software. Hidden within the settings menu is the ability to attach doxie to your home wifi network. The scanner is likely one of the better options available in terms of hardware and software , but it's love of "so simple, just scan" instructions makes it hard to understand exactly how to get the images you want from it at first. The main con is the charging connector. The small connector is going to fail on you. It is flimsy and is going to eventually fail unless you are extremely delicate with it. Battery life seems to be good, I have not yet used a full charge and have scanned several large stacks of legal documents that have piled up in my filing box. ID cards and Credit cards WILL feed through the doxie go wifi. The included Photo scanning sleeve is confusing, I scanned about two dozen photos with it and the software cropped them all differently. I wish that it would output a raw file, but as a line scanner, you instead you get a combination of PDFs and Jpeg formats. Integration with dropbox is a plus. There is also the ability to add integration to other software through the .exe file in windows. It is probably worth $175 realistically. If you get it for that cost or less then you will feel great about yourself, though the current MSRP is $230. If used diligently, this will certainly help me get rid of nearly my entire file cabinet. All files can then be cataloged in some database software of your choice such as evernote or simply in dropbox or on a flash drive. This is probably not going to be the scanner you want for a home business, unless you only ever need to scan single documents at a time. If you need the ability to place a multipage contract into the scanner feed tray and walk away, there are better options.
