Synopsis
Join a two-year mission through Star Trek's highs, lows, and behind-the-scenes revelations from Deep Space Nine to Voyager. How well do you know Star Trek?Lifelong science fiction fan, podcaster and author Tom Salinsky decided that the answer was "not well enough", and so at the beginning of 2022, he embarked on a two-year mission to watch everything from the start of The Original Series to the end of Enterprise, at the rate of one episode per day. This book is the second part of that odyssey, covering Deep Space Nine, and the first two seasons of Voyager plus the first two Next Generation movies. As well as having fun saluting the show's triumphs, cringing at its lapses in taste, and admiring its willingness to swing for the fences, there's lots of fascinating behind-the-scenes information here. Was Morn really such a chatterbox? Why was Deep Space Nine allowed to do so much serialisation? Did Star Trek need Michael Dorn more than Michael Dorn needed Star Trek? Just whatever happened to Geneviève Bujold? How is Nicholas Locarno related to Tom Paris? But you'll also get the benefit of a complete overview of these hugely successful and beloved spin-offs, which expanded and extended the Star Trek universe to new quadrants, new eras and new modes of storytelling. Plus there are contributions from notable fans, writers, authors and experts, giving their own perspectives on these classic episodes.Whether you're a die-hard fan, a casual viewer, or just someone interested in the history of television, you'll adore coming on this daily journey though the highs and lows of one of the most significant and much-loved media properties in the world.**Praise for Volume I: ****The Original Series, The Animated Series and The Next Generation**"Funny, absorbing, perceptive and a fine reminder of the wealth of work that Star Trek has produced through the decades." - Critical Popcorn"Even if you're not the world's biggest Star Trek fan, the way this book is written will certainly keep you entertained." - Total Entertainment"Whether you're a devoted aficionado or a casual viewer, this book offers an immersive experience." - Kuriositas.com"An honest labour of love from a lifelong sci-fi specialist, and even gives the episodes that fail a fair hearing." - Lou Reviews, An episode guide to the whole of star Trek, carrying on where Volume I left off, and covering Deep Space Nine and the first two seasons of Voyager, as well as the first two Next Generation movies, including fan favourite First Contact. Written in a breezy, engaging style to give a personal assessment of each episode or movie, while tracing the developments of various iconic elements. This book doesn't just tell you what's a 'good' or a 'bad' episode. Tom's aim is to pinpoint what works, what doesn't and why, or why not -informed by his own experience as a storytelling consultant, scriptwriter and author. The book also includes contributors from notable fans, authors, actors and broadcasters, giving their takes on favourite episodes. A celebration of the show while not being blind to its faults, this book is an absorbing read for the dedicated fan and an eye-opening education for those who haven't already been on this journey.

- n***m (110)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseGood price for the book. Shipping was slow. Messaged the seller a week after I ordered it to see when they were going to ship it. They responded immediately and said it would be shipped out soon. Got it about a week later. Book did arrive in the date range that they provided though Minimal packaging. Book is Shrink wrapped and only wrapped in thin plastic. No bubble wrap. Book is in good shape though.
- c***t (923)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseThe book I bought was reasonably priced and when it arrived it was in the 'Like New' condition specified in the listing. However, when I saw that the seller had not shipped the book after more than 15 days had passed since my order I felt I must write to say that I had actually placed an order with the seller and inquire when it planned to send the book. The brusque reply was that a tracking number was available, but no number HAD been created until I pointed out that I had placed the order.Catland by Hughes, Kathryn, Like New Used, Free shipping in the US (#356798982438)
