Packed with vivid details and telling quotations, Zinn's award-winning classic continues to revolutionize the way American history is taught and remembered. Frequent appearances in popular media such as The Sopranos, The Simpsons, Good Will Hunting, and the History Channel documentary The People Speak testify to Zinn's ability to bridge the generation gap with enduring insights into the birth, development, and destiny of the nation.

      • Unadulterated history of the U.S.

It's great to read history as it was written at the time and not get the glossed-over, sweetened-up version. I'm referring to the beginning of Zinn's book that cites actual accounts from men's journals of the conquest of indigenous peoples in "the New Land." Quite horrific! It is a slow read for me, but very worth it. I'm eager to continue on to the more present age and see what my high school history books decided to hide.

      • Excellent book about our horrible nature/history.

OK, warning, this is a very hard book to read because it displays the horribleness of humanity. In this book, rich white people are the tyrants, and perhaps whites can be evil in different ways that other races, but I'm quite sure all men in power from whatever races can be horrible. And it goes without saying, black slaves. I can only read a chapter at a time, before putting it down and being disgusted that I am human, then trying to figure how/why people get so bad. I'm retired, taught college & middle school, this book is an essential read for any history buff/teacher. Also ...

I have owned a few copies of this book. I have lent them out and have not received them back. If you would like to know the history of our country from the very very beginning, then you cannot do better than this book. I really appreciated the fact that this book arrived from the seller in near perfect condition. Thank you.
