    Cool Girl Pop

    There's no earth-shattering musical revelations on Girls With Guitars, but there's certainly plenty to be enjoyed. Big name singers or bands? No, but there are names that collectors will recognize, such as Goldie & The Gingerbreads, The Goodees, and She/Hairem. If you like 60s "girl pop," you'll be pleased with Girls With Guitars, I think—but I do have a quibble: The inclusion of songs with male guitarists, Lonnie Mack and Al Casey fronting female backup singers, seems out of place. Good stuff certainly, but...well, Girls With Boys With Guitars isn't what I thought I was paying for. Favs are The Beattle-Ettes' novelty "Only Seventeen," Kathy Lynn & The Playboys' "I Got a Guy" and the two songs by The Girls, "My Baby" and "My Love." I'm not keen on covers but I do rather like The ...
