If this were a DVD, I would be raving about the extras. From his introduction to the afterward, Scott McCloud provides a commentary track that is interesting and compliments the work in a way few DVDs actually do. Yes, I know this is not a DVD, but it is the closest I have come in all the comic collections I own. He is able to give us the background of each issue along with short autobiographical pieces throughout the book, as opposed to trying to say it all in one two page introduction at the beginning of the book. I will admit, I haven't read it all the way through yet. The tome is 576 pages after all, and I will be taking my time with it. This is a work that deserves close paying attention to detail, as that is what the creator did when putting together the collection. I ... If this were a DVD, I would be raving about the extras. I have read pieces here and there, finished the introduction and sampled the issue addendums, as well as admired the "simple" and endearing artwork that sets this apart from all other superhero collections out there. To say I am very impressed is an understatement. The only downside, so far, is that it is presented in a smaller than original comic book size. I always feel this is a detriment to a comic book much like pan and scan is to a movie originally presented in widescreen. Books like Strangers in Paradise and Serenity Rose have attempted this and have suffered because of this. I will see if Zot! suffers the same as those two. My Thoughts on ZOT!
I really love this collection of ZOT! originally published by DC Comics. The story line is amazing, and as many others some of my favorite issues are in the Earth Stories rather then the first part of the collection. In Zot! they deal with a lot of issues, especially in the Earth Stories that many comics at the time tended to avoid so much as possible, and they did a wonderful job at bringing those issues to light.
