Recuperati dalle antiche lastre del suo fotografo di fiducia, le immagini di questi dipinti fanno parte ora delle 120 tavole che corredano il volume. La scoperta ha permesso di ricostruire il suo percorso artistico, finora confuso nella contraddizione delle notizie, nell'alternanza delle fortune e nella scarsezza dei riferimenti critici. E in più la storia di una donna la cui vita sembra la sceneggiatura di un film, il mito della "femme fatale" dalla sessualità ambigua, della profuga russo-polacca che sceglie la pittura per sfuggire alla fame, cambia amanti come abiti e gioelli.
