    For Ella Fitzgerald completists

    This is a compilation of Ella Fitzgerald's two recordings for Reprise: Ella (1969) and Things Ain't What They Used to Be (1971). The second was the better of the two LPs; produced by longtime manager Norman Granz and arranged by Gerald Wilson. The first was produced by Richard Perry and attempted to pair the great singer with some of the pop and soul hits of the day. Her voice was just beginning to show signs of wear, though still quite good. As a collection, this is an efficient way to fill the gap between her classic recordings for Decca and Verve and after she recorded for Capitol but before Granz formed his Pablo label a few years later.
