    another one too young gone

    This guy had a voice like...like...yeah, you sit and try to remember where you've heard that voice, who sings like this...and you can't. It's Piper-at-the-Gates-of-Dawn-ish, and not Pink Floyd's Piper, and if you don't know the original story of the Piper...well, you probably won't like Nick Drake. Soft, subtle, clever writing. Precise, spare, nearly perfect instrumentation through out. Contemplative, playful, personal. So why did these gifted young guys from the 1970s seem to die or burn out so young? Jimi, Syd, Peter, Marc...why? Well, Cap'n Ron, nobody knows! Anyway I'd never heard of Nick Drake till I tracked down who was singing and playing guitar on that AT&T commercial, found out it was Nick Drake. Googled him up, listened to a few tunes and decided what the hell, buy a ...

    The late NICK DRAKE composed extraordinarily melodic music during the latter 1 9 6 0 ' s and early 1 9 7 0 ' s ; it is a pity that he endured extremes of depression and took his own life in 1 9 7 4 . Moreover , like many ' s another artist who was unappreciated in his lifetime ( HERMAN MELVILLE is one of the best examples ) , the music of Nick Drake didn ' t really find its niche among loyal listeners until after he died . I bought this disc largely because of a truly exeptional song , " Northern Sky " . Also , as I try to enlarge and improve my compact disc collection , the dearth of Nick Drake recordings was a notable omission . As always , I have the merchants at E - Bay to thank for providing a large array of discs for me to try to win .
