About this product

Product Information

One-time professional gambler Scott Crane hasn't returned to Las Vegas, or held a hand of cards, in ten years. But troubling nightmares about a strange poker game he once attended on a houseboat on Lake Mead--a contest he believed he walked away from a big winner--are drawing him back to the magical city. Because the mythic game did not end that night in 1969. And the price of his winnings was his soul. And now a pot far more strange and perilous than he ever could imagine depends on the turning of a card.

  • A Masterpiece of "Secret History"

Tim Powers specializes in writing novels that use true historical events and build a "Secret History" which interconnects these events with magical and mythical details. "Last Call" uses California and Nevada history to build a modern story of the Fisher King interwoven with The Green Knight and ancient gods. A bad choice lands Scott Crane in the middle of a strange poker game played with a powerful deck of Tarot cards and money is the least important thing at stake. Decades later, payment is due and Scott, his best friend, and Scott's adoptive Father must travel to Las Vegas and try to stop the King from collecting. Intriguing characters, amazing histories and a compelling story line make this first book of Powers' trilogy (Last Call, Expiration Date and Earthquake Weather) a great ...

  • Last Cally by Tim Powers

This is an amazing book...some understanding of quantum mechanics is helpful, but certainly not necessary to enjoy this wonderful book. Anyone considering a trip to Las Vegas must read Last Call...just a great experience.
