Continuing where YOGA JOURNAL'S ASHTANGA YOGA - INTRODUCTORY POSES leaves off, this 67-minute video covers most of the Ashtanga Primary Series. This sequence of postures, developed by the father of Ashtanga Yoga Pattabhi Jois, comprises Surya Namaskar A & B (two vigorous variations of the Sun Salutation), standing poses like Triangle and Warrior, and some "finishing" or seated poses. Instructor Nicki Doane, a student of Pattabhi Jois and co-director of the Yoga on Maui (Hawaii's premiere Ashtanga studio), has a flawless practice and models the postures well. This combined with her spirited and precise instructions makes her a reliable guide to the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series.

    Not for me!!!!

    Let me start out by saying I use yoga as a way to exercise only. When the chanting and omming started count me out. This practice is way to new age and way to spiritual for me. I am a Christian and know to stay clear of worshipping other Gods which is what the chanting and meditation part of this dvd is all about. Not to mention the instructor has no personality, and is so monotone it's painful. I consider this dvd something to stay clear of, and a total waste of money!!!!

    Great DVD-thorough

    I really enjoyed this dvd. Nicki Doane explained these poses very well. The great thing about this dvd is that it is fully chaptered. You can choose an option on the dvd to have certain poses explained in more detail. I believe that this dvd is suitable for any level of yogis or non-yogis. The Advanced Ashtanga demonstration is beautiful to watch what our bodies can someday do.

    Good for beginners

    The price is very good. I have no idea what to do in the first place, so I think a beginner's yoga dvd is good. It turns out to be what I want, though so posture need practice. The visual quality it very good.

    Probably NOT for beginners to yoga and/or excercise !

    Probably not for absolute beginners to yoga and/or excercise. Otherwise, excellent all around. Very clear instructions. Great for to expand an advanced beginner's practice.

    Very nice for biginners and who thinking to get started

    This is a very nice DVD for all who has been doing some types of Yoga for awhile & might be curious about Ashtanga or who might want to get started, and for Ashtanga biginners.
