"The most affecting and successful narrative ever done about the Holocaust." -TheWall Street Journal  "The first masterpiece in comic book history." -The New Yorker "A loving documentary and brutal fable, a mix of compassion and stoicism [that] sums up the experience of the Holocaust with as much power and as little pretension as any other work I can think of." -The New Republic "A quiet triumph, moving and simple-impossible to describe accurately, and impossible to achieve in any medium but comics." -The Washington Post "Spiegelman has turned the exuberant fantasy of comics inside out by giving us the most incredible fantasy in comics' history: something that actually occurred . . . The central relationship is not that of cat and mouse, but that of Art and Vladek. Maus is terrifying not for its brutality, but for its tenderness and guilt." -The New Yorker "All too infrequently, a book comes along that's as daring as it is acclaimed. Art Spiegelman's Maus is just such a book." -Esquire "An epic story told in tiny pictures." -The New York Times "A remarkable work, awesome in its conception and execution . . . at one and the same time a novel, a documentary, a memoir, and a comic book. Brilliant, just brilliant." - Jules Feffer, "The most affecting and successful narrative ever done about the Holocaust." --The Wall Street Journal  "The first masterpiece in comic book history." --The New Yorker "A loving documentary and brutal fable, a mix of compassion and stoicism [that] sums up the experience of the Holocaust with as much power and as little pretension as any other work I can think of." --The New Republic "A quiet triumph, moving and simple--impossible to describe accurately, and impossible to achieve in any medium but comics." --The Washington Post "Spiegelman has turned the exuberant fantasy of comics inside out by giving us the most incredible fantasy in comics' history: something that actually occurred . . . Unique holocaust story

This is an amazing book. I read it 20 years ago and never forgot it. I will cherish this story and the grandson that was so creative in telling it by graphic cartography.

  • Maus I & Maus II

Amazing. Through a graphic novel, Art Spiegelman has shared the story of his parents’ Holocaust survival. Spiegelman's father, Vladek, a Polish Jew who survived the concentration camps of Nazi Germany during World War II tells his story to his son. But Maus I and II are primarily works on the father – son relationship. Artie is in pain and he may have sought his father’s story to give some context or explanation to that pain. Maus I recalls the events for Vladek and Anja in Poland leading up to the invasion and show how life was good and love was common. Maus I ends with the gates of Auschwitz. It details the love story of Vladek and his wife, Anja, a love of great depth and strength. Before the camps they were never apart during their married life and surprisingly they both survive. • Awesome story for adult or child.

These two books are wonderfully descriptive. I loved them as a young adult, I read them again when I was older and still enjoyed them. I got them for my son so that he could experience them as well.

  • There's a Maus in my house

Had to see what all the hubbub was about.. Excellent graphic novel! Bought multiple to make sure I had enough for ALL of my grandchildren. Banning these books is an absolutely ridiculous idea.
