This is an easy read that was well written in the words of Russell Johnson. Just a very interesting book that I could not put down especially if you are a fan. You will really enjoy this book.

Excellent Information Source & Highly Entertaining!
A very informative, entertaining back story of a very popular TV series. Who knew the usual gang of empty headed TV Exec's wanted there to be a talking dinosaur on the other side of the island for Gilligan to be friends with!? Sherwood Schwartz, with a proven track record of highly successful TV series, was horrified. Thankfully, he convinced them the budget wouldn't allow for it every week! Russell Johnson, who along with Dawn Wells Bob Denver, himself, vouched for to be more than "...and the rest!" in the opening theme song, has produced an excellent thesis here. He had a 29 year old son who died of A.I.D.S. and became a great advocate of human and social rights. He spoke of his unhappy working relationship with one Ronnie Reagan (future president of the U.S.A.) who ... A very informative, entertaining back story of a very popular TV series. He spoke of his unhappy working relationship with one Ronnie Reagan (future president of the U.S.A.) who was so right-wing, and seeing "Reds" everywhere that his personal politics was a source of grief to the very open minded Johnson, who by the way was a war hero who'd been shot down by the Japanese (his co-pilot was actually killed right next to him), was captured and escaped, and was awarded the Purple Heart. Johnson observed that Reagan, for all his loud mouthed "patriotism" and wanting to question everybody else's, never left the country during that time period. It's a very good information source about his early working days with Roger Corman, and making lots of Westerns. I'd highly recommend this book for anyone with even a passing interest in behind-the-scenes stories about favorite TV shows, old SCI-FI movies, and just viewing one of our beloved movie characters as a regular, if not highly admirable human being not too different from the rest of us as far as life, love, and laughs. I give this wonderful, highly enjoyable book a 5 Star, THREE thumbs up rating! Highly recommended.

Definitely the one of the top 10 books I have ever read. THE best book on Gilligan's Island and there have been a bunch. Russell Johnson shares his memories of the island from the inside plus his career before Gilligan. Scores of rare and interesting photographs. Highly recommended.
