About this product

Product Information

"It began as a mistake." By middle age, Henry Chinaski has lost more than twelve years of his life to the U.S. Postal Service. In a world where his three true, bitter pleasures are women, booze, and racetrack betting, he somehow drags his hangover out of bed every dawn to lug waterlogged mailbags up mud-soaked mountains, outsmart vicious guard dogs, and pray to survive the day-to-day trials of sadistic bosses and certifiable coworkers. This classic 1971 novel-the one that catapulted its author to national fame-is the perfect introduction to the grimly hysterical world of legendary writer, poet, and Dirty Old Man Charles Bukowski and his fictional alter ego, Chinaski.

  • Bukowski isn't for everyone...

Charles Bukowski isn't for everyone, that's pretty much universally agreed upon. Post Office is a good novel to start with, it can be read easily in a few nights and if you like the style Bukowski has more novels, short stories, and poems to keep you going for a long time. Some think he's a womanizing drunk, to some he's a deadbeat lazy bum, myself I think of the man as genius. "Factotum" is another good novel, as is "Women". All of Bukowski's works are for mature audiences, definitely not for impressionable teenagers. I give this novel my highest rating, 5 stars!

  • Bukowski???

This book was refered to me by a friend. I had no idea who Bukowski was. This book is easy reading. It's things that happen in everyday life and it's a captivating book. I can say that this book has got me hooked and i'm reading and plan to read the rest of Bukowski's novels. It kind of reminded me of J.D. Salinger's "Catcher in the Rye". Highly recomended.

  • Post Office by Charles Bukowski (1980)

Bukowski is (was) a brilliant novelist and poet. Bukowski describes, in vivid detail, his 13 year experience working for the Post Office (along with other aspects of his life) with a great degree of humor. An easy read and never dull. Post Office was Bukowski's first novel.
