About this product

Product Information

George Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is a low-budget, homegrown classic that had great difficulty finding a distributor at the time of its release in 1968, and has since become one of the most influential horror films of all time. (Aside from its visceral impact years before realistic gore became the fashion, the film is also important for its portrayal of a black man as the protagonist during a time when race was an extremely sensitive issue in the United States.) The plot is simple: seven people secluded in a Pennsylvania farmhouse face relentless attacks by reanimated corpses seeking to eat their flesh. The group, which includes a married couple and their daughter, a pair of young lovers, and an African-American man, try to keep their sanity as the living dead keep trying to enter the house. Radio news reports tell of the plague taking over the eastern United States, while the ever-decreasing band of survivors rapidly loses ground in the battle to both keep peace with one another and stay alive.

  • Not as bad as I was lead to believe.

I am a zombie freak, of all apocalyptical ways for the world to end I choose the dead rising. After years of putting it off and reading scathing reviews of the 30th Anniversary Edition, I decided to give it a shot. At the end of the movie I can say, not bad. Not great, but not bad. The spliced in new scenes were far more obvious than the creators would like to think, the added back story did not do much for the overall story but was nice, come on people it is Night of the Living Dead, not the King James Version of the Holy Bible we are talking about. I rate it above average only out of a bit of bias for the genre, lets face it, the original movie was not a movie masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but I love it none the less and a little creative tweak here an there doesn't ...

  • A MUST BUY for HORROR FANS

Night of the Living Dead Night of the Living Dead is amazing. It might feature some cheesy performances and very little special effects (it was the 60's) but George A. Romero took an idea and turned it into an instant classic. I still enjoy watching this movie every now and then just to remind myself what started it all and how far we've come. Final Verdict: 4/5 Rent or Buy?: If you're a horror fan this is a must buy. If you're just looking to see what all the fuss is about rent this one today. IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE. Thank you.

  • night of the living dead - 30th anniversary edition

i found this edition of the classic, in a word, disturbing . . . let me explain. for someone that has seen the classic innumerable times, watching it with an additional score was unnerving to me. i'm sure the people that added the music are HUGE fans and would probobly commit great bodily harm if anyone defiled the name of george romero, however, it was SOOOO unnecessary. the extra score, i feel, downgraded the movie and just changed ot for me. a word of caution for anyone that wants to be ambitious and add extra music to a classic movie; please don't.

  • Avoid This Edition At All Costs!

George A. Romero's brilliant zombie classic Night of the Living Dead deserves an equally brilliant dvd release. Figuring that a big anniversary edition would be a definite one I watched this dvd. It boasts 15 extra minutes but those minutes are better left off. If it had 2 versions of the film - with and without the extra footage - then it would not be too bad. But just watching this version is a disservice to Romero's vision of zombies as a metaphor for racial unrest. The best edition so far - I am still hoping Criterion will release it! - is the Millenium Edition. It has the original version with a few interesting extras.

  • An excellent completely different release of the film in excellent upscaled quality.

I must watch this version with the re scored music at least twice a month. I like the added scenes stuff they came up with, however I watch this version original. And the real highlight with this release is the music. It adds a modern class to the film visually, and takes you to a different place. You will keep telling yourself "Well, I still have to watch the version with the original music and sound effects, but I still really like this version!" It will never leave my collection.
