About this product

Product Information

Author Michael Crichton extends his pop culture influence to the arena of gaming with Timeline, the first release from Crichton's Timeline Computer Entertainment software development company. Based very closely on the Crichton novel of the same name, Timeline invites the player to explore a mystery that took place over 600 years ago.

The story begins in our near future as scientists discover a way to travel back through time. Using this miraculous technology, a group of academics returns to 14th century France to research the culture of that era. Unfortunately one of these scientists, Professor Edward Johnston, does not return from this mission. The only evidence of his disappearance is a 600-year-old note in his handwriting, discovered in modern-day France.

Taking on the role of graduate student Christopher Hughes, players step back through time to look for the missing professor. The game boasts detailed 3D environments featuring huge castles and other architecture authentic to the time period. While some fighting may be necessary to move the mission forward, no one is ever killed as this could disrupt the timeline and might have disastrous consequences for the future 21st century that Chris Hughes calls home.

Though there is some action involved, the developers wanted to create a game that did not require the hand-eye coordination of a twelve-year old PlayStation master - they wanted a game that would challenge everyone, but that anyone could sit down and eventually finish. The main focus of the game is on puzzle solving.

Michael Crichton was a regular consultant on the project from the beginning, so fans of his work should feel right at home in this game. Those who have not read the book can still look forward to the chance to solve a 600-year-old mystery, first-hand.

  • Merely an ok game, nothing amazing.

First of all, if you are a Windows XP or Vista user, I would not buy this item, as the game only works with Windows 98 or earlier. I happen to have an old Windows 98 in my home, so I can tell you about the game as well. The game is based on the novel of the same name by Michael Crichton. I have not read the book, so I cannot make a comparison, but the story is pretty good and simple. You take on the role of Chris, who goes back in time with friends Baretto and Kate to the 14 century France to rescue a professor. This game is, in a word, short. You could very well play through the game in around two hours. The game is a tad fun, the first time you play it. After that, there is zero replay value, which is disappointing. While there is an interesting tour mode, which includes freely ...

  • Timeline PC Game

I loved both the book and the movie of this title and anticipated great things from the PC game. . . BUT the first disappointment is that the game is not compatible with Windows XP, it will install in Vista, but is prone to crashes. So if you have a Windows 98 or older operating system this game is for you. What I have seen of the game has promise, though if you are use to a standard FPS it is quite a change to have a cardinal game rule of "do not kill anyone."

  • Timeline is a blast from the past!

Pros: *old school packaging (U.S. version)*old school gameplay*U.S. packaging contains a paperback novel of the same name*nice 3d graphics for its time*catchy storyline and gameplay (stealth&tournaments)*immersive, well crafted medieval environments Cons: *few flaws in gameplay*not for impatient action-loving gamers Go get it before it solds out and became insanely expensive! It IS definitely worth of your money!
