Upon its release in 1980 this film was accused by critics of taking the slasher film and its accompanying gore effects to new, unpleasantly graphic levels. Slasher classic! A must for all horror fans!
Directed by William Lustig (the man who brought us the awesome Maniac Cop series) comes a brilliantly casted and written horror flick to enjoy for ages. Maniac has the greatest of the greats! Actor Joe Spinell takes us on a journey through the mind of a the very odd schizophrenic serial killer Frank Zito. With other great actors in the film such as Tom Savini (who also did the make up for the film), and actress Caroline Munro (who befriends the crazed killer later in the film)this movie is a hit! Filled with odd and guilty pleasures for horror and exploitation lovers alike! I highly recommend this film for all lovers of the genre!
