I was never really a fan of Documentaries. Something about paying good money just to be force fed one-sided propaganda never sat right with me. People like Michael Moore and Al Gore being prime examples. Who want's to watch a bunch of hypocrites twist the truth? I know I don't. Trekkies was different. It didn't point fingers or use slander. It just asked questions and listened. I was never really into Star Trek, I caught my fair share of Star Trek episodes in the past, even been to a few Sci-Fi conventions sure, but never considered myself a Trekkie by any definition. Than one day I decided to get Trekkies after seeing the trailer. Mouth agape, I couldn't believe how deep some of these people were into the Star Trek universe. In some cases it was beyond fanaticism, it was a way of ... I was never really a fan of Documentaries. Than one day I decided to get Trekkies after seeing the trailer. Mouth agape, I couldn't believe how deep some of these people were into the Star Trek universe. In some cases it was beyond fanaticism, it was a way of life. The vast array of Trekkies was phenomenal. There was one rather creepy lady in Little Rock Arkansas who attempted to wear her Star Trek uniform to jury duty. This caused a great media frenzy in her home state. Apparently she was a leading member of a Star Trek club where they actually believe they were Starfleet officers. Ironically she was dismissed not because of her unusual attire, but due to the fact that she spoke with the press after being told not to. Other's ranged from naming their pets after key characters, decorating their homes to look like space ships and even attending classes on how to speak Klingon. Not only do you get the perspective of the Trekkies through interviews, but also those of various other cast members (Oddly enough William Shatner never made an appearance). The majority of the interviews were done by Denise Crosby who played as Lt.Tasha Yar from The Next Generation. Watching these celeb's talk about their experiences with Trekkies really made you feel their pain. If it wasn't bad enough they were type-cast by their TV personas, but being subjected to the extreme nut cases on a daily basis...too scary. You'd think I didn't really like this movie, but to be honest I loved it. Seeing how these people incorporated this hobby into their daily lives was fascinating. Maybe it's because I felt better knowing I wasn't anything like these people or maybe it's the fact that I've got a little Trekkie in me as well. I wouldn't be ashamed of the latter, but unlike the majority of the fans I know where the line is drawn and I dare not cross it. I believe there is a point of going "too far" and if you watch this you'll see major examples of that line being pole vaulted over. Like I've said, I've been to a few Sci-Fi conventions and seen this type of thing first hand. But nothing could have prepared me for this movie. Either way it doesn't matter who you are, this movie will completely draw you in and you may even find you're a little bit Trekkie yourself.

Trekkies DVD: A Great Buy and Great Fun!!
I purchased the Trekkies DVD because I (and my family) found it to be an enjoyable film about people who are truly devoted to all things Star Trek. Even though the film is over 10 years old, it still provides insight into the phenomenom that is Star Trek and a great many laughs. FYI: There is some racy fanfic talk and a very brief shot of artwork of a rather adult nature. The DVD is through Paramount so it's professionally made but there are no Extras on it. I happen to be a big fan of Star Trek but I think you don't have to be one to enjoy the zany antics and genuine passion of the people documented here.I purchased the Trekkies DVD because I (and my family) found it to be an enjoyable film about people who are truly devoted to all things Star Trek. Trekkies review
It's a fun little movie for the Star Trek fan at heart if you attend the conventions, watch the movies/shows and collect the memorabilia. There is a sequel to this as a heads up.

Wonderful and informative
Although, I am personally not a Trekkie. I just really enjoy this documentary. It is a funny and well made film about the cult- following. It is great to see real people expressing themselves in a very unique way. The whole family liked it.
