Beyond Help HARDCOVER 2007
Lena Adams is an angry and self-destructive woman. She has spent her whole life struggling to escape her horrible Southern past instead of falling prey to drugs & crime like most of her family. She became a cop in another town. Her abusive ex-boyfriend, Ethan is in prison but he plans to pick up where he left off when he gets out. When Lena finds that her beloved uncle is in trouble she finds she must return home to help him out. The town has not changed....it is still over-run by drugs, corrupt cops and neo-Nazis. On top of all this she finds herself the only suspect in a brutal murder. Lena's judgement is not perfect and in this book she puts her boss and his wife in grave danger along with herself. Ms.Slaughter seizes the desperation of the people who live in communities where meth is dispensed like candy and becomes the drug of choice for all age groups. The book will leave you with a lot to think about.

COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN
Ms Slaughter's books are not for the faint of heart. When reading her books, you get the feel that you are there with the characters and involved with the action. This book will intrigue you and scare you on many levels as the author crisscrosses back and forth among the participants while you are guessing and second guessing all the while. I have been reading mystery-thrillers for many, many years and the the end of this one was a surprise--no, shock. You will think about this one well after you finish the last startling page. Wish I could give it more than 5 stars.Ms Slaughter's books are not for the faint of heart. When reading her books, you get the feel that you are there with the characters and involved with the action. Wonderful series!
Karin Slaughter is an excellent author who keeps you on the edge of your seat. I have read all of her books in this series. They are great!!! You wont go wrong purchasing any of her books. Just remember when you sit down to read, you have no where to be because you WILL NOT want to put it down! I decided to purchase this book because it was the next in the series.

This author is awesome. You really get to know the characters. Another can't put down book !!! Not since Patricia Cornwell have I been this addicted to a series of books. I can't wait to read the next one.

Shocking End!
Having read the other reviews, I too was not keen to start with at the way the book kept jumping back and forth, but it was building the story, which all becomes clear at the end of the day. I was very surprised at the end. If you have never read a Karin Slaughter you have missed out. I agree with the other review that said if you have not read her, go back to her first book and start from there. If you are a lover of Slaughter, then this is a must buy. She has become better, I believe, than Patricia Cornwell.
