The GF1 adopts the micro four thirds system standard, which was developed as an extended version of the four thirds system standard for digital camera systems. By using this standard and developing a camera body that eliminates the mirror box and optical viewfinder unit, Lumix was able to achieve a dramatic reduction in both size and weight compared with conventional digital SLR cameras, to create a new-generation system camera that features full-time live view, high-speed, high-precision contrast AF, HD movie recording, and more. The GF1 is small enough to take anywhere yet sophisticated enough to take you as far into photography and movies as you want to go.The 4/3-type 12.1-megapixel live MOS sensor featured in the GF1 offers the best of both worlds the superior image quality of a CCD sensor, and the lower power consumption of a CMOS sensor. This sensor is also advantageous for photo and movie recording with its high S/N, thanks to a circuit structure that is unaffected by the noise generated in each of the circuits. It results in clear images even when taken at high ISO sensitivity.The hybrid GF1 lets you take both high-quality photos and HD movies. You can shoot breathtaking HD movies in AVCHD Lite format (MPEG-4/H.264) backed by the high sound quality of Dolby Digital Creator. And you can record for a longer time without running out of memory because AVCHD Lite stores data more efficiently than Motion JPEG while maintaining stunning image clarity and detail. A dedicated "movie record" button on the top lets you instantly start recording movies while shooting photos, so you don't miss a second of the action.

    The best camera I ever owned

    Despite having a long learning curve the menu offers lots of control for the photographer who knows how to adjust exposures. The lenses (14-42 and 20mm) are incredibly sharp. Picture quality is first class with excellent color accuracy under varying light situations. This is the best camera I ever owned.

    Size matters!

    The size of this camera really does make it easier to bring it along. The features are unlimited and really user friendly. I am very pleased with the small pancake lens for grabbing those indoor shots and the 1:1.7/20 makes them pop. It works great with low light. It has great playback options and I don't have to grab my reading glasses to catch a shot. The videos are good and also conveniently available. I pack into the wilderness a lot and sometimes opt out on the DSLR because of the weight. This camera caught my attention because of the size and with an adapter I can add one of my big Nikon lenses if I want. Very happy with the camera so far.

    Chinese Wonder

    Well, my camera did not come with a lens but i purchased the 20 mm elsewhere. I did not expect to win this camera and put in the bid at the lowest level but won it unexpectedly and unfortunately had not read that it was the Chinese version, so the menu is all in Chinese. So I have been boning up on my languages. Actually I downloaded the manual in English and learned what most of the settings are. Using the 'intelligent auto-focus' setting, i have found it takes some amazing pictures and the 20 mmm lens handles low light situations really well even without a flash. The pictures of landscapes and people have amazing detail and it adapts to shadows and bright areas remarkably well. If i need a telephoto, i just switch to 'program' mode and select either 2x or 4x for a digital zoom. so this ...

    Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1C-K - Review

    I haven't had allot of time to become familiar with the camera or all its features. But as far as first impressions go it has lived up to my expectations. I have taken pictures in the worst possible lighting conditions and have been impressed by its image quality. Full manual controls are available for those who are familiar but the intelligent auto mode takes surprisingly good pictures. I am using the 1.7 Pancake lens kit and its profile is relatively small, but not small enough to be a pocket camera. It must be said that it is much smaller than your typical DSLR. Though it won’t compete with high-end DSLR’s at the pixel level its image quality is very impressive and is comparable with some mid-range DSLR’s and considerably higher than your typical point and shoot digital cameras.     Way better quality than I expected and I own a lot of Nikon and Hasselblad

    I have had a photography business for 40 years. I have done medium format and digital for the last years with large pro camera bodies and bulky lenses. I LOVE this little camera. It is the real deal. It has everything a professional is looking for with aperature shutter focus options and it makes large stunning files. I had no idea this camera existed and bought it on a whim looking for a pocket camera that might give me a file I could crop and play with using Photoshop. It has exceeded my expectations out of the box. I am looking to tripod mount it and use it as a for pay gig at some shoots I do.
