Notes
Cage THE ELEPHANT is a Bowling Green, Kentucky-based five piece band consisting of Matt Shultz (vocals), his brother Brad (guitar) and their friends Daniel Titchenor (bass), Lincoln Parish (guitar) and Jared Champion (drums). Matt, Brad and Daniel grew up on an alternative religious commune started by their ex-hippie parents. Pop music was strictly forbidden so their discovery of key punk and rock influences was covert and somewhat recent. The essence of Jimi Hendrix, Green Day, White Stripes and Kings of Leon, among others, fuels Cage's libertine, over-the-top rock explosions. Appearances at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and a tour with Queens of the Stone Age provided the band with critical early live exposure. They then relocated to the UK for a period of time, where their debut self-titled album was released in mid-2008. It has sold over 40, 000 copies to date in the UK, driven by a Top 40 charting single and extensive touring there, including memorable performances at sold-out Reading and Leeds festivals. Cage the Elephant now returns to the land of their origin, exultant, intemperate, and ready to conquer.

  • Good Album with Shades of Post-Punk Rock

I purchased Cage the Elephant's self-titled debut album based on the strength of their first single, "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked," and was pleasantly surprised by the rest of the material on the disc. Lead singer Matt Shultz's voice has certain inflections that are reminiscent of Joe Strummer, albeit with distinctly American material. "In One Ear", the album's opening track, proclaims the band's awareness of the current state of rock — and their subsequent dismissal of such claims — while songs like "James Brown" and "Free Love" harken back to the early days of true rock heroes. In all, Cage the Elephant's debut is a solid effort, and we can only hope for more material for this up-and-coming band.

  • Good, but Disappointing

I bought this CD when I heard the Song "Aint No Rest for the Wicked" on Youtube. I must admit, I thought the song sounded better from there. At high volume through a good stereo, it kind of lost something. I still love the words and the beat to that song. Besides that, I liked the song "In One Ear" too. I wasn't huge on the rest of the CD. This band has a very disjointed, unharmonious sound that grates on my ears a little bit. Not enough funk for me I guess. Not a bad CD though either. Worth the ten bucks, especially if you've already heard them and like them.

  • Great condition!

Item was in great condition, and I can tell the CD was polished before sending. I have an expectation of some amount of wear when buying a used CD, so the quality of the item was a nice surprise. Thank you for going a step beyond!
