About this product

Product Information

Many will have heard of the ghostly white lady haunting Tavistock-the notorious Mary Howard, accused of murdering her four husbands. A few may know the true story of her lover, George Cutteford, a Plymouth "cutty man" who became a Puritan lawyer. Cutteford was imprisoned in the horror of Lydford Gaol, persecuted by Mary's fourth husband-Sir Richard Grenville, the most notorious and sadistic royalist General of the Civil War. But fewer still will know the secrets George Cutteford died to protect-secrets that would destroy his own family; end Grenville's career in shame; and make a boy with no name the richest landowner in Devon. Gathered from the varying historical accounts, and including primary material unearthed, hundreds of years ago, in an old fish market in London, comes this haunting true story of love, treachery, and revenge in seventeenth-century Devon.

  • Whats left of a reg.

I like focus books that look at a certain battle or unit for the attention to detail. Ive always been interest in WWII and my old unit the 1st Marines so when I saw this book I knew it was up my alley. Its well written and the details are there. The book covers the what the brass were doing as well as the enlisted during this one battle. Good photos and digrams help make this book for me and the way they are spaced through the story. Some Ive never seen before. I give it an average mark because it takes alot to impress me and its my opinion. If you like WWII history you will like this book. The 1st Marine Reg landed on the north end of the invasion beaches. White Beach would soon be red. Then the 1st Reg were the first attack the high ground and suffered the highest casualties of the 1st ...

  • Excellent!

This is my third book on the Battle of Peleliu; it's a great book, especially with the diagrams of the Japanese fortifications. It covers the First (1st) Marine Regiment perfectly.
