Jim Carrey returns to his zany, manic roots in this Capraesque comedy from director Tom Shadyac (ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE and LIAR LIAR). Carrey stars as Bruce Nolan, a television reporter in Buffalo, New York who lives a normal life with his sweet girlfriend Grace (Jennifer Aniston). But Bruce isn't satisfied, and after a particularly bad day where everything goes wrong, he blames God. After spewing a tirade of curses God's way, God (Morgan Freeman in a gentlemanly white suit) responds and challenges Bruce to take over and see if he can run things better. Of course, there are some conditions; Bruce can only have the "almighty" powers for 24 hours and only in the Buffalo area. This doesn't stop Bruce, and he responds to his newfound powers with selfish, childlike zeal. Like a kid in a candy store, Bruce sets off making one hysterical, yet disastrous, decision after another. He pulls the moon closer to the earth so he can have a more romantic evening with Grace, unaware that his actions cause a tidal wave in Japan and responds to the prayers of the world with a mass-email "yes" that creates millions of lottery winners, riots, and mayhem. Ultimately, Bruce proves he is only human, and cannot possibly fill God's shoes, although he has a great time trying.

AN AWESOME MOVIE!!! One of Jim Carrey's BEST!! It is definitely on our Top 10 List of Favorite Movies and would never part with it!! Why we bought it?They played a clip from it at our church and it seemed very interesting, funny, and showed how life can be quite questionable at times. A GREAT MOVIE if you're having a bad day and need good laughs, and some good energy! We have owned it for over two years, and have watched it probably 100 times!! It gives us the lift we need when we need one! It shows how your life can get out of hand when trying to balance you "business life" vs your personal life/family life. The business life tends to take over and you find that you end of losing much of what you had(the important things in life). **ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!!!** It may touch very close ... AN AWESOME MOVIE!!! One of Jim Carrey's BEST!! It is definitely on our Top 10 List of Favorite Movies and would never part with it!! What would you do in his position?
Bruce Almighty I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this film. I thought it was hilarious and Jennifer Aniston and Jim Carrey are a great on-screen couple. Morgan Freeman is also really good in this movie. The best thing about this movie is it really gets your imagination going... what would you do in his position? Final Verdict: 4/5 Rent or Buy?: A really good movie with a great message, you don't have to be a Jim Carrey fan to be a fan of this movie. IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE. Carrey Epitomizes Zany - Last Choice For GOD to Choose?
No matter how Hollywood always tries to capitalize on the religious aspects of life, it always seems to either be too much of a lesson, too little of a lesson, or turns out to be not much of a lesson at all. This all should at least, for a short time, makes us at least empathize for the main characters long enough to feel for someone else. In this movie, we aren't sure whether the character Jim Carrey plays as Bruce deserve much of nothing, which is a novel idea. Give this guy all the power in the universe and see what happens. If it wasn't so funny, I would have forgotten to laugh. The newscast scene is unforgettable and leads to a sequel Evan Almighty. You must watch this with a few different people in your family and friend circle to see whether it holds up to the 5/5 excellent. I ... it a light hearted way to show what god can do !!!
I love everything about this movie.It is shown in a happy way how God can use a person. Its a great story and its so funny when you ask for god's powers and then you learn that sometimes you should be careful for what you ask for , and finally he does learn what in life is good!!!I watch it over and over again ,and of course who could do this story any better than Jim Carry ? nobody.
