  • They Still Have It

Newsradio was one of my favorite TV shows while I was growing up. I hadn't seen all of the episodes so then they were on DVD I was able to see them all. The makers of Newsradio knew what made a TV show good. Character Development. At the end of the fourth season the unfortunate happened, the passing of Bill McNeal (Phil Hartman) the show had a very VERY large void to fill. John Lovitz is not my favorite person to watch and I did not think that I would enjoy this season, Phil Hartman is gone and John Lovitz is in. However, he quickly melted in with the regular cast. The character interactions among the other quirky staff members of WNYX was a way to move on from the loss of Bill McNeal. Throughout this season you see many supporting characters come and go. The writers continued to ...

  • Still Good

I must admit I was scepticle about the quality of NewsRadio after the shocking passing of Phil Hartman, which is addressed in the first episode of this season and is quite touching at times. His character was hysterical and I knew they could never fill his shoes. I don't think they were attempting to when they signed on his good friend Jon Lovitz. After watching the show from Season 1, I felt I had really gotten to know the characters and was leery of the introduction of another. I thought Jon Lovitz had some great moments on SNL and he certainly has them in Season 5 of NewsRadio. I think he has some trouble fitting in to the comedic pace of the show, but I can't criticize him for that. I found some of these episodes downright hilarious (Matthew's midlife crisis for example) and ...

  • For hardcore Newsradio fans only

Seriously. Have the other 4 sets, watched them until i practically know the scripts by heart. So....i hemmed and hawed over getting this one, knowing as i did that episode 1 would be almost impossible to watch (having watched the originally aired broadcast, i did not want to cry my eyes out again!!!) yikes. Even episode 2 is hard to watch, when Jon Lovitz's character Max reminisces about Bill McNeal. Still, getting past that, getting past the 'geez - there's almost no one left of the cast!', and the inane notes they were getting from the idiots in charge at the time at NBC that led to the changes they had to deal with....well, it's worth it, but only for hard-hardcore NR fans. Everyone else will likely feel that this was the worst of the series but for my money, Smatthew, Johnny (Patrick ...
