Week phone, not at all good for hearing impaired!
This phone is a total disappointment. Handset speakerphone is weak-even on 'boost'. Earpiece sound isn't much louder and isn't any clearer than the $19.00 retail vtech phone, and the screen is very small,text is tiny, and it doesn't stay lit for more than 10 seconds. Worst thing about it is the screen and second worse the fact that screen display only lights up when number is first dialed or original call is received. Doesn't light up to make text visible when call waiting call comes thru. Third worse is that it's very complicated to learn/set up phone! Another downfall- phone book entries only allow for 10 characters including the space between first and last names. I don't know but 4 people with that few letters in their first and last names! Earphone jack works good at top of handset-though it's over kill, seeing as it's also a speaker phone. This handset is too heavy. It weighs a little over 7 ounces- I had to chuckle when I saw the place on the side of handset for hooking a neck-loom.. It would rub your skin off in an hour if wearing it continuously! Pros: Very nice speakerphone in the cradle/base. Very clear and as loud as you need it to be. Easy to see/dial numbers & easy to find 'boost' feature should you need added volume.

This phone is perfect for a person that has a hearing problem. You can adjust the amplification, and on occasions when needed you can press the BOOST key to get additional amplification. On incoming calls not only an adjustable audio indicator is present, but a seris of flashing red LEDs pulsate ON and OFF. It also has one emergency buttion that you can program to call emergency services, or anyone else. It also has an extensive built in address book. The phone has a programable ring tone, with adjustable ring tone volume. The built in Answering Machine is easy to use. The handset can be moved anywhere in the house without any degradation of conversation quality. The handset can be paged from the base station if it were misplaced. The buttons are backlight and are large and easy ... This phone is perfect for a person that has a hearing problem. You can adjust the amplification, and on occasions when needed you can press the BOOST key to get additional amplification. Too Complicated
While the Clarity C4230 is a good product for someone who has a hearing problem, it may be too complicated for someone who is a older, a technophobe or has eye problems as the type for the various features is difficult to read on both the LCD and the phone itself (labeling). It would be a good idea for Clarity to produce a phone with a limited feature set that addresses volume/clarity only in a VERY simple way. Also, there should be a way to adjust the TONE as some people have problems with low frequencies and others high frequencies. Ancient technology here... can not recommend it
this phone has some serious drawbacks. The handset is good with good clarity on the listening end. However, the answering machine playback sounds like it's in an echo chamber... and you cannot turn the volume down to an adequate level. On low volume it blares your message all across the house for everyone to hear at the lowest setting. Also, you cannot listen to messages on the handset...!!
