About this product

Product Information

Darkness abounds in the world of Castlevania, where Dracula’s curse and other blood-sucking fiends pose a threat to innocent citizens throughout the land. In the third official chronological game in the popular series, you play as Hector and find yourself in a story fueled by passion and vengeance. Released for the Microsoft Xbox, Castlevania: Curse of Darkness is a thrilling role-playing game that immerses you in the supernatural and puts you up against some of the evilest and terrifying enemies you’ve ever encountered. Through several other popular Castlevania video games, you know some of the sinister forces and grave threats that exist in this murky universe. Continuing the tradition set by titles like Castlevania: Symphony of Night, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Castlevania: Lament of Sorrow, this latest is full of tension and terror with improved gameplay and more involved character growth. Adding to the integrity of the experience, artist Ayami Kojima and composer Michiru Yamane have returned to ensure that the tone and quality of the franchise remain intact. Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, developed by Konami and IGA, brings you back to this dark and complex world and puts you face to face with some of the biggest challenges yet. In this video game for the Xbox, you play as Hector, a Devil Forgemaster who used to work for Dracula but became disillusioned with his brutal practices. Trying to live in peace among the humans in Castlevania, Hector is betrayed by a fellow Forgemaster named Isaac in a series of events that leads to his girlfriend being accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake. This engaging RPG puts you inside Hector’s head as you navigate his path towards vengeance, meeting several different forces of evil along the way. As you play Curse of Darkness, you’ll become well-versed in what it means to be a Devil Forgemaster. As you progress, you’ll develop the ability to create and enhance Innocent Devils that will serve as your allies as you face enemies, try to avoid traps and solve an assortment of puzzles. The role-playing elements are stronger than ever in this supernatural adventure that allows you to employ unique gifts, powers and menacing allies to destroy your enemies. As you accumulate experience points, there will be changes and growth reflected in your character as a result. You can’t head into battle without a proper arsenal and in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness for Microsoft Xbox, you are more than covered. You’ll get to choose from axes, spears, swords, and a whole host of other powerful weapons. You are able to take advantage of an advanced combo attack that will help you in your defense against creatures of the night. You have a large playing field to explore, with wide, open environments that get you outside of the castle and into more sprawling action. From intense, action-packed gameplay, in-game puzzles that test your critical thinking skills, and an emotional story at the heart of it all, Castlevania: Curse of Darkness is a must-have addition to any gamer’s collection.

    Forgotten and Underrated Castlevania Game

Played it because Isaac, Hector, and Saint Germain from the Netflix came from here, this completely forgotten entry in the CV franchise. The adaption is VERY loose, which is fine. It's satisfying to see who these characters originally were. The game's not perfect, but it's surprisingly good. Easily the most underrated entry in the franchise. It's DMC lite with SotN influences and a neato monster raising system. In terms of gameplay, this is a successor to Lament of Innocence, but massively evolved. LoI is short enough to be worth it for the curious, but is honestly very skippable. It lacks the gameplay variety of CoD's weapons and monsters and it segments its explorable environments into isolated stages, as opposed to CoD's continuous overworld. And it has a fixed camera, lol. This game is ...

    So close yet so far!

With CoD, Konami tried to pull off a 3D Metroidvania, and it some cases they succeeded, but mostly they failed. Level design in CoD is linear and boring. Sure there's a lot of backtracking but it feels tacked on for the sake of being there instead of a crucial and rewarding element to exploration. A key factor in successful Metroidvania's. CoD came out at a time when Retro Studios had knocked out the first 2 Metroid Prime games for Nintendo. Both masterpieces. Igarashi and co. really should've studied the level designs of those games as a template for CoD. Those games show how to do 3D Metroidvania properly. Anyway the positives. Graphics are nice for the time. Bosses and enemy designs are awesome. Music is solid as always for the series, and the story's compelling. I'd say the game's ...

  • You versus an entire army of devils

The game is the typical side scrolling fighting game where the goal is to defeat a boss and gain their special ability to help you in the following stages. As you fight the evil devils, you gain experience points which you will use to upgrade. The interesting twist is this time you are now a Forgemaster in which you are able to conjure up what they consider Innocent Devils to fight for you. Each Innocent Devil type has different characteristics which you you will find usefull in one way or another (healing vs fighting vs flying, etc). As with previous Castlevania titles, the graphics are ok. The fight engine is arcadic with limited controls needed to accomplish anything. The Good: 1) Beat them up... a lot 2) Puzzles 3) New twist on conjuring 4) Wow... cool bosses 5) Much better graphics ...

  • Solid game play, improved graphics, and who doesn't love Castlevania?

I will agree with a lot of other people that this game is very similar to the previous title Lament Of Sorrow, and not quite as good, but I still had a good time playing it. While I've mostly played the more modern games in the series due to not having consoles as a kid, I've enjoyed almost all of them and this one is no exception. Probably my only complaint was that sometimes it was hard to tell where to go as some of the 'corridor' designs were not easily navigated. I liked the upgraded graphics (courtesy of more powerful hardware) and better load times thanks to the hard drive. Overall I think it's a solid entry in the series and if you can get a good price, give it a try.

  • Castlevania: Curse of Darkness

its a nice 3d arcade game, NOT XBOX360 COMPATIBLE. i have played around 1h30 and it is not so hard but its fun. We can create a lot of weapons and armor with materials that we find by killing monsters. There is combo moves and they can be differant with each weapons. X is the attack button B is the finishing move. XXB = hit, hit, throw weapon in front of you. XXXB hit, hit, hit, AoE attack with verry light weapons XXXXB = hit, hit, hit, hit and rly fast single target attack. theres a defencive stence for rapid esquive and block. Theres demons minion pets with special power, so far i have found 2, one he is only healing me and one big rock demon that squish the enemy. i recomand that game for those who like old 3d arcade games just for fun, it is pretty easy and i dont think we can choose easy ...
