Cleanest Yet
You know the album and the music, so this is just about the sound quality. Having owned the original LPs back in the 70s, I know what the noise used to be like on this album. All albums from 1970 and before were like that. When the remastered CD came out, it cleaned up the ambient noise and made the album way more listenable--it was a dramatic improvement. The SACD version takes it even further with a 5.1 surround mix which seperates the instruments, lowers the ambient noise to nothing and really lets you enjoy the musicians. They can't make the flat recording of the vocals sound any brighter, but at least you hear them as well as possible. It's probably not overstating things to say that the 5.1 mix is relevetory, as it really does let you hear the individual instruments much more ... Layla - Eric Claptons biggest masterpiece!
This is Mr. Claptons huge success after spending a few years in limbo after the break-up of Cream and Blind Faith. The one big factor in this that is lost on too many music lovers in the influence that Duane Allman had in the guitar sound and overall vibe of this endeavour. Eric wanted him to join the band but the Allman Brothers was Duanes very own hard-driving/living success story until his early death at the age of 23 in a motorcycle accident in 1971. Other contributing members were Bobby Whitlock, Jim Gordon and Carl Radle. The time honored classic : Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek and the Dominos !!! The best of the best! What else is there to say? Here you have Eric Clapton(at his best), Duane Allman(very possibly at his best), Bobby Whitlock, Jim Gordon, and Carl Radle(at their best). And that's really good! They are all bad to the bone! What a fantastic album! It's so good that it's hard to believe! If you like good R&B infused rock and pop, you'll love this one. On another good note,: It's mostly all Rock. And it's a must have! Ya' just gotta' hear it! And if you do, you'll want to own a copy! And if you do, I'll bet you'll love it! It's just a great rolling R&B Rock album. Also, I'd like to add that I bought my copy online, thru eBay, from Abcsound, and they shipped, lightning fast, a used, ... Consummate Eric Clapton and Allman Brothers collaboration. Originally a two record LP set, gives the essence of top musical artists in the rock/blues genre of the early 70s. Must have for any collection.
