Bette Davis at her best.
What a great movie. Bette Davis is incredible playing twin sisters. She always gave a great performance in all her films. You will enjoy this one for sure. I recommend this to anyone who is a fan.

Fascinating story & special effects.
This is an excellent film. The special effects that allowed Bette Davis to play twins in 1947 hold up surprisingly well today. Once you get past the novelty of twin Bettes (Kate and Pat), the storyline still holds your interest. The premise may sound contrived --- evil twin steals shy twin's man; evil twin conveniently dies; shy twin assumes sister's identity --- but, surprisingly, the twins are such well-developed characters that their actions seem logical. Kate isn't really shy; she's actually quite assertive by 1940s standards. She even makes the first move to approach Bill, the man she likes. But Kate wears tailored shirts and trousers, and she definitely wants to wait for the wedding night before getting sexually involved with any man, even one she's ... This is an excellent film. Unlike Kate, an artist, Pat has no career and no real talent. Pat wears frilly clothes and uses sex to get what she wants. Bill is dating Kate when he meets Pat and decides he likes Pat better because Kate is like plain cake, while Pat is like cake with frosting (his words, not mine). To put it bluntly, Pat wears prettier clothes and is willing to take them off. So Bill dumps Kate and marries Pat. Granted, Kate doesn't fight for Bill once she knows Pat wants him. But should she have to? Bill isn't some mindless piece of property that can be stolen. Oh, wait, maybe he is --- because he's not exactly thinking with his mind once he meets slutty Pat. Once they are married, Pat tries to give up her slutty ways but can't help going after other men because it's the only life she knows. Meanwhile, Kate throws herself into her art and remains a virgin. The irony here is that neither Kate nor Pat is exactly the right woman for Bill. Kate's personality and loyalty plus Pat's sexuality add up to the perfect woman. Too bad there's no way to combine them. But wait! Once Kate assumes Pat's identity, she has to become more like Pat. Is this old black-and-white film really suggesting that, to get a guy, a good girl needs to go bad? Well, maybe just a little!
