Intorno al 1442, a Ferrara, Giovanni Romei, in occasione del matrimonio con la giovane Polissena d'Este, volle ampliare ed abbellire la sua dimora: appartiene a questo fortunato momento di fervore costruttivo la Sala delle Sibille, che allude a simbolici significati rivolti ad esaltare la sposa e l'amore coniugale. Il recente restauro, spiegato attraverso disegni e fotografie nelle problematiche conservative e nelle soluzioni, ha restituito ai rovinatissimi dipinti una più colloquiale leggibilità. E' stato inoltre occasione per raccogliere saggi rivolti ai diversi momenti storico-artistici che decodificano le dodici profetesse inserendole nella cultura umanistica del loro tempo.
