    very inexpensive quad core

    I upgraded a $90 "refurbished" HP Elite 8000 with a recycled Core 2 Quad and 16 gig of DDR3. Windows 7 and later are worthless with 4 gig of RAM, but do OK with more. The replacement CPU needed careful cleaning to remove the dried out thermal paste. Installation was straight-forward and the computer booted up correctly. Good way to get a reliable machine fast enough for almost all home chores.
