About this product

Product Information

"A thoughtful and powerful page turner."-- People Elvis Cole is just a detective who can't say no, especially to a girl in a terrible fix. And Jennifer Sheridan qualifies: Her fiancé, Mark Thurman, is a decorated LA cop with an elite plainclothes unit, but Jennifer's sure he's in trouble--the kind of serious trouble that only Elvis Cole can help him out of. Five minutes after his new client leaves his office, Elvis and his partner, the enigmatic Joe Pike, are hip-deep in a deadly situation as they plummet into a world of South Central gangs, corrupt cops, and conspiracies of silence. And before the case is through, every copy in the LAPD will be gunning for a pair of escaped armed-and-dangerous killers--Elvis Cole and Joe Pike. "Elvis Cole provides more fun for the reader than any L.A. private eye to come along in years."--Joseph Wambaugh "Elvis lives, and he's on his way to being crowned the king of detectives."-- Booklist

  • OUTSTANDING AUTHOR ++++

    Robt.Crais is by far, one of my favorite authors, having read every book he has in print. His characters of Elvis Cole & Joe Pike are alive & always moving !! Mainly, Crais' stories do NOT drag or become "bogged down" with needless 'BS' !! As you may realize, I do like his style & highly recommend this book & his many others, to anyone who enjoys fast paced stories & sometimes unusual means of setting everything straight & to the better !! ~~ TRY IT; YOU'LL LIKE IT ~~

  • Well worth adding to the set.

    I've read almost all (except one) of Robert Crais' oeuvre, but this book is apparently out of print and hard to find. It's one of his earliest works so I wanted to see how it compares to his more recent books. It does not disappoint, i.e. it lives up to his usual standards, and it's good to read more about early Elvis and Joe. Normally I would baulk at spending $6.99 shipping for a $4.50 used book, but it was worth it to me to get the missing piece. The book was in good enough shape that I can probably trade it in at the used bookstore; I'm sure there'll be a demand for it.
