    Zombie Alert - Sequel to The Rising

    If you have not read The Rising - do so before reading this one. I got both at the same time and it was a good thing because once I finished The Rising I HAD to read The City. You will be hooked from the start of this series! What did I like? The whole post apocalyptic living, the zombie storyline, the writing is dark and smart. What did I NOT like? The zombies are not real zombies, they talk and think and are possessed by evil spirits. And that - to a true zombie fan - is a big no-no. I know there is only so much you can do with the living dead - the brainless masses who kill for survival and have no other agenda - so I can see why Keene went this other direction to give us some zombie fun. Highly recommended - both this one and The Rising. But if you want real zombie fun and really ...

    What an amazin book. Horror meet your new maker!

    Be sure to read the first part of this story The Rising By Brian Keene. Well as for the City of the dead...Love the fact that its scary. The fact that I had nightmares speaks for itself. I don't really like the idea that the zombies are thinkers due to the malicious entity. The author is very good at describing the atmosphere. Each person in this story goes through something truly difficult. The child that goes from dark hair to white. The husband that faces his wife and the dead child still occupying her womb. The preacher and the fathers determination to journey across three states to save his child. Or the drug addict that face withdraw but is helped and accompanied by many more. This book has you thinking in terms of the coming of Christ. But its not a bible thumping story is ...

    City of the Dead is a follow-up to The Rising. Both books are amazing!!!!!

    City of the Dead is the follow-up from The Rising. I hardly read books, but when i started reading the rising i was hooked! I highly recommend this book to anyone. Also i added brian keene to my facebook and asked him about why he did the ending the way he did and he actually replied and talked to me like a regular facebook friend. Hes a great author with plenty of imagination! Read the rising first then this one.

    One of the Best Zombie Books I've Ever Read!

    I didn't realize this was a sequel to another book (The Rising), so I read this first. I enjoyed it so much, I still went out and bought "The Rising" (even though I would know the fate of all characters); In my opinion, this sequel, The City of the Dead was the better of the two... but I still enjoyed both books. I found myself actually caring about the main characters and found them totally believable. The zombies are quite different than the usual mindless dead in other books because these zombies can think.... and drive and operate weapons. They inherit all the skills and memories of the body they now inhabit. Book is filled with lots of gore scenes and Keene leaves nothing to the imagination... actually rubs our face right in it (which is why we read these books anyway!); but he also ...

    City of the Dead - A Must for Zombie Enthusiasts

    The City of the Dead, sequel to the The Rising, starts off exactly where the first book left off. This book would make an excellent movie. It has lots of action and gore. However, it does not skip over the characters emotions and motivations which makes the action and gore that much more thrilling. It's a good combination of Stephen King and George Romero. Well worth reading if you are interested in the zombie genre.
