    Exactly as it says!

    I have had this book for years but in my recent move lost it. So ordering the same book took me right back to my bread making skills with the confidence James Beard instilled all those years ago. I purchased a used book which is like brand new. Ordered one for a friend also. Many wonderful recipes will keep me busy for quite awhile with the holidays coming!

    Beard on Bread

    Beard on Bread is great like any other of his books and I have a few. Mr. Beard takes a serious look at bread baking and through researching recipes and his own experimenting with various bread recipes has come up with a good collection of bread recipes that are thoroughly written out so the beginner bread baker can end up with nice bread. There are a wide variety of recipes for people to try. The one thing that I found lacking was the use of wheat flour alternatives in this book. Living with a person that has to be cautious of how much wheat and gluten is in food, makes this book somewhat lacking. I had hoped for more recipes using spelt, rye, brown rice and other flours that don't have so many readily digestable carbohydrates as wheat.

    Best Book on Baking Bread

    This book is the very best -and readable- guide by The Master for anyone wanting to learn the art and skill of bread making. And it is not a huge and heavy tome. My neighbor is learning to bake bread and I loaned her my old battered first edition bought back in the day. It was very stained and moldy before her cat tipped over a glass of red wine on it. I found a fine copy on ebay and gave it to her (in exchange for my old ratty one back--I love it and can remember some of the fun times baking out of it). And besides now with a nice clean book on her counter far enough away from her glass of wine she can bake more and better loaves and she Shares with Me! Thank you James Beard And ebay!!

    Beard on Bread has excellent bread recipes and instructions. I look like an expert.

    This is the original book I had when it was first published. The information and illustrations have made me appear to be an expert, and I owe it all to James Beard and this book, Beard on Bread. I am delighted to find this hardback edition I had. There are more recipes for many of the starndard varieties of bread I had not tried.
