I devoured Marguerite Henry books as a young girl. Since I grew up with Arabian horses this one always had a special place in my heart. The story of the Godolphin Arabian and the mute boy who cared for him is just wonderful. I recently re-read the book before giving it as a gift and still found myself tearing up in several places. C. S. Lewis said (paraphrasing) that children's books - GOOD children's book - can be even more enjoyed by adults than children as we can get so much more out of them and I think he's right. This is a wonderful (based on a true) story and tells not only of this horse, but of both the horrible cruelty and magnificent compassion of people. It is totally appropriate for children, and if you read it with your children you will love it too. Check out the rest of her ...

  • Absolutely wonderful book.

I love this book. This is a very good book for children on up to adults. This book gives you the history to a great horse. All thoroughbreds can be traced back to four horses. One of which is the Godolphin Arabian. This book is a great learning tool for history and it will keep you wanting to read more and more into it. This is where I learned that Thoroughbreds came from Arabians. Man o' War owes his vitality to this wonderful stallion. Whether you like action, suspense, anything, I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

  • Good book

  • Wonderful book!

This is one of my all time favorite books. I used to get it from the library all the time when I was younger. While browsing Arabian horse books I came across it. Being a Arabian Horse fanatic I had to have it for my personal collection.

  • Great story!

What a book! This is definately my favorite Marguerite Henry. It's a lot more exciting than some of her others, and is just an all-around awesome book for horse lovers! I read it when I was ten or eleven and enjoyed every moment of the adventure! There is a little bit of weird mythology stuff, since this is set in Arabia, but it doesn't overpower the story. Very well-written!!
