About this product

Product Information

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick "Beautifully written and incredibly funny, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is about the importance of friendship and human connection. I fell in love with Eleanor, an eccentric and regimented loner whose life beautifully unfolds after a chance encounter with a stranger; I think you will fall in love, too!" --Reese Witherspoon No one's ever told Eleanor that life should be better than fine. Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy. But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond's big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one. Soon to be a major motion picture produced by Reese Witherspoon, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is the smart, warm, and uplifting story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes. . . The only way to survive is to open your heart.

Our personal growth and how it may come to us in such pitiful circumstances .

Eleanor is so judgmental of everything and everyone. As you read on you find out why . She has great plans to be a better person and there are others who need her in their lives . So they bump along and figure things out as best as any of us can. She really needs the friendship of Raymond (her age) and Sammy ( a man whom she and Raymond find unconscious on the street). This is a very uplifting tale of how each of us has a role to play in this universe; it's always better with friends We become stronger with them . I recommend these characters and how their stories have us rooting for them .

Not enjoyed by our book club

My book club read this and only one of us slightly enjoyed it. Depressing and offensive at times due to the sad and haunting background of the main character, we wondered why it was recommended to us. It may be realistic for some, but it was neither an enlightening nor an enjoyable novel to our group. There are ao many great books out there! Even the occasional humor was overshadowed. I wouldn’t suggest it.

  • Excellent book!

A very compelling story containing many elements which speak to one’s self concept. Eleanor Oliphant’s upbringing is central to understanding the person she is @ the start of the story, including relationships with others. The idea that it’s OK to live a life on her own, judging others from a warped viewpoint, is dispelled once she develops a friendship with a coworker. The ensuing events in her life deriving from this relationship challenge the thoughts & concepts she’s developed over her lifetime, many of which stem from an abusive childhood. Repressed memories of her past are brought to light, often in painful ways. By dealing with them in a healthy manner with help from others, her perspective on life as well as other people change for the better. I highly recommend this book, which is ...

  • Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine

I thought I was buying a paperback copy of the actual book; instead I received a tiny 30-page SUMMARY booklet. I need it for a book club I am running in my home and couldn’t be more disappointed....not to mention the fact that they refer you to certain pages in the actual book which do not correspond with the quotations in that small summary booklet. Could there be a British version with different page numbering’s? This is a rip-off and not what I expected. A refund is due.
