About this product

Product Information

Few fantasy lands have captured our hearts and imaginations as has the marvelous land of Oz. For over four generations, children and adults alike have reveled in the magical adventures of its beloved folk. Now, for the first time in over seventy years, the second book about Oz is presented here in the same deluxe format as the rare first edition, complete with all 16 of the original John R. Neill color plates, its colorful pictorial binding, and the many black-and-white illustrations that bring it to joyous life. First issued in 1904, L. Frank Baum's The Marvelous Land of Oz is the story of the wonderful adventures of the young boy named Tip as he travels throughout the many lands of Oz. Here he meets with our old friends the Scarecrow and Tin Woodman, as well as some new friends like Jack Pumpkinhead, the Wooden Sawhorse, the Highly Magnified Woggle-Bug, and the amazing Gump. How they thwart the wicked plans of the evil witch Mombi and overcome the rebellion of General Jinjur and her army of young women is a tale as exciting and endearing today as it was when first published over eighty years ago. Afterword by Peter Glassman. A facsimile of the rare first edition, complete with all 16 original color plates, a colorful pictorial binding, and over 125 of Neill's drawings. A Books of Wonder(R) Classic.

  • How Ozma of OZ came to rule!

    L. Frank Baum was a genius with an imaginative wit that captured children of all ages! After His first book, The Wizard of OZ, he went on to write many more OZ books, further exploring the wonderful world and lands he had invented so that kids of all ages would rejoice for generations! ***PHEW*** That was long-winded. This sequel to the Wizard of OZ came a number of years after the original tale, and only because Mr. Baum promised that, if he received 1000 letters asking for another OZ book, he would do so. That promise was kept. This offering by the "Wiz" of kids books tells us how things got started, but sort of backwards. Before the Wizard of OZ came to power, there were older rulers. Royalty deposed by wickedness. The book tells the story of a young orphan boy named "Tip" who ...

  • Beautiful printing of an excellent book!

Hands down, The Marvelous Land of Oz is one of the best books ever written. With hilarious social commentary, rollicking adventure, fantastic characters, and the most wonderful Fairyland of all time, there is absolutely no reason why any literate English speaker should not read this book. As regards this particular printing, the drawings are printed crisply and the text print is clean and beautifully clear. The cover is designed carefully and enticingly, and the tome itself is lovely. VERY highly recommended to ANYONE.
