Not bad, but could be better, try a newer model from the same manufacturer.
It does 4 channels of 192 simultaneously on a firewire connection, the SPDIF only goes to 96K on the one I own, because of the limitations of optical TOSLINK. I am also not sure if spdif was capable of 192 at the time of manufacture, and I have seen only a few interfaces that refer to 192k spdif. I give it four stars because I cannot verify the bit depth is 24 bit. So far, my digital VU meter wavers at -78 DB, meaning that there may be lots of dither. I have not tested the device using ASIO, so I cannot say that it is not 24 Bit. The audio was not as good as my E-MU PCI card, but for its size and portability, I cannot complain. 4 channels of 192k even at 16 bit is hard to find. The input and output connections were useful, and the built in limiter was great for speech and recordings ... Drivers installed with no major problems, but you should follow the directions carefully. Overall, it was not bad, but I was not blown away by this product. It has likely been replaced with newer technology operating on the same concept. I do like having the headphone jack available to monitor, so I don't have to drag along a mixer just to monitor. I have not tried the spdif record function, and so I cannot confirm that it is true digital, which my E-MU is not!

Edirol FA-66 as a Gig interface
I picked this unit up off EBay because I needed a reliable and rugged audio interface to play soft synths through on my gigs. This unit is rock solid and the drivers provide quick audio without any glitches or pops. A solid and very dependable piece of gear. I am currently running it on a Dell Latitude D630 and it doesn't even break a sweat! I am not recording back to the laptop with this unit at this time, so I cannot speak to it's abilities on the recording side of things. But if recording is as rock solid as playback, I wouldn't worry. My only complaint about the design is that, while it will let you use all 6 outputs simultaneously, two of the outputs are fed through a TOSLink optical jack, so unless you have another adapter that can convert digital audio from a toslink connector to ... There is a company called Gefen (one F) that makes such a converter for about $70 if you really need the extra two outputs in analog. Other than that, I have no complaints. I would recommend this FW audio interface to anyone who needs a rugged road ready audio interface with mature and stable drivers. Hey, it's from Roland. They also own Sonar, so they know a thing or two about computer audio.

Reliable, portable, dependable.
This is an excellent interface for what it was designed for: layer recording or for outputting stereo from a live venue in a 2 track format. Great reliability. Very durable and portable. Highly recommended for those home recording enthusiasts. Software is stupid proof and works well. Also, the cables are inluded for both regular 1395 (firewire) and laptop links. Sweet.
