It's Hellsing Ultimate, and it's the ultimate yet. I bought it, of course, because Hellsing is my all-time favorite anime and manga series - its dark, gritty, yet sensual violence is always exciting and original. This series promises to whallop the original series, which is impressive considering the fan following the original attained. However, this one will follow the manga much more closely, making it faster paced and featuring a much better plotline. I ordered the special addition the day it was released. The special addition comes with a bust of Alucard and a second disc which features interviews with Crispin Freeman and the voice actor director, in addition to a whole slew of English and Japanese trailers. The original voice cast returned for Alucard, Integra, Walter, and ... It's Hellsing Ultimate, and it's the ultimate yet. I bought it, of course, because Hellsing is my all-time favorite anime and manga series - its dark, gritty, yet sensual violence is always exciting and original. This series promises to whallop the original series, which is impressive considering the fan following the original attained. However, this one will follow the manga much more closely, making it faster paced and featuring a much better plotline. I ordered the special addition the day it was released. The original voice cast returned for Alucard, Integra, Walter, and Seras, which I thought was nice seeing as no other voice actors come to mind who would do their roles better. They also have been better instructed this time around, following the manga much better (Integra is a little more fiesty, Alucard is a little more like Integra's lap dog, and Seras has a heck-of-a-lot more gumption). The DVD does has duel audio, however, so if you prefer it in Japanese, go ahead and watch it that way. Sound and video quality is absolutely superb. Furthermore, I was very impressed with how much the style resembles Hirano's signature elongated, predatory limbs, stark shading, and feral facial expressions. At first I had some doubts about how these unique style would look in motion-picture style, but my doubts are gone - it works. Wonderfully. My three complaints are as follows: At a few spots, I didn't like the translations. For example, in one scene (in the manga), Seras is supposed to say, "Get your hands off Sir Integra you _freak of nature!_" In the anime, however, she only says, "Get your hands off Sir Integra." Secondly, I'm unsure about the voice cast for Anderson. While he sounds fine overall, I felt that he was lacking in some of the crucial parts that made the Japanese voice actor for Anderson so amazing: the maniacal laughter, the signature "AMEN!", and the screaming battle cries. The English Anderson tones it down a lot more, which disappointed me. Lastly, while I was thrilled that they're making a point of including Hirano's typical off-beat humor, I was just a smidgen disappointed that they changed a few of his gags. However, the gags that they used instead were still funny and still Hirano-esque, so maybe they got his input on them. Ah well; I'm just banking like-whoa on Bruce Willis voice acting for Willis in the upcoming Jackal dream sequence. All in all, however, I'd recommend this to fans of the original anime, fans of the manga, and newbies alike. If you enjoy dark, gritty, action-packed smexiness, this is for you. Check it out - you won't be disappointed. (Well, except that you'll have to wait until February until the second episode will be released).

I bought Hellsing Ultimate for one simple reason; I'd seen it so many times in Japanese that I knew justhow awesome it was and simply had to own the dubbed version. It's truly wondeful. The artwork is beautiful, the voices match perfectly, and the entire thing is not censored. This is an absolute must for any fan of anime, vampires, or just bloody, actiony fun. This version is almost word-for-word the first book of manga, the entire thing. Completely opposite the Hallsing 13 ep. series, which was a pitiful, horrible butchering of the entire concept.
