Being a person with several yorkies in the house, the house can get very noisy at times. The use of this device, at times, has helped the constant barking at noises outside the house, etc. I don't leave it on all the time because the puppies need to play and learn to bark. There was some adjustment to the device when I first turned it on. The older dogs hid and wouldn't come out from under chairs, etc until the device was shut off for a while. Since then they have learned to not bark unless there is an obvious knock or doorbell.
