  • Vietnam Documentary Reviewed by a Vietnam Veteran

I had the VHS videotape version for 20-years. The new DVD is superior in audio and visual quality. The film is a moving account of the whos, whens and wheres of Vietnam as told in letters written by Americans in the fight and through news footage. Gut-wrenching human drama that makes excellent use of appropriate music, from 1960s rock classics to Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A." This HBO production also received theatrical release. The film is based on the book “Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam;” edited by Bernard Edelman and written as part of The New York Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission located near South Street Seaport. The book was published by: Norton, 1985. I am the subject of a letter in the book.

  • DEAR AMERICA - LETTERE DAL VIETNAM

GUARDARE UN FILM AL CINEMA O IN TELEVISIONE CON ATTORI CHE VESTONO I PANNI DI EROI AMERICANI IN VIETNAM CHE COMBATTONO PER DEGLI IDEALI SALVANDO I PROPRI COMPAGNI O LA PROPRIA PELLE DA DELLE EMOZIONI FORTI, SOPRATTUTTO SE E' UN BUON FILM; GUARDARE "DEAR AMERICA - Letter From Vietnam" LE EMOZIONI DIVENTANO VERAMENTE INSUPERABILI. SEI CONSAPEVOLE CHE CIO' CHE STAI GUARDANDO NON SONO ATTORI PAGATI PER FAR DIVERTIRE IL PUBBLICO, SONO RAGAZZI, SONO GIOVANI UOMINI, GENTE COMUNE, RAGAZZI DIVENTATI UOMINI IN FRETTA, UOMINI VERI! NON FINGONO, IL SAGUE E' VERO, LE ESPRESSIONI SONO REALI....I SENTIMENTI SONO REALI E VENGONO TRASMESSI FIN DAI PRIMI MINUTI DI PELLICOLA ALLO SPETTATORE. HO VISTO QUESTO DOCUMENTARIO PER LA PRIMA VOLTA QUALCHE ANNO FA IN TELEVISIONE IN ITALIA. ...

As a Vietnam Veteran myself this brought back alot of memories. This movie(documentary) is no doubt the real thing. If you are interested in seeing the Vietnam War up close, then this is a must see.Parents beware, there is a nude scene in this movie. This movie consist of newsreel and home movie footage that shows and tells it all.The letters home written by GI's give detail account of thier experience's in war torn Vietnam. The voices are actual actors such as Tom Barenger,Brain Dennehy,Robin Williams,Martin Sheen, just to name a few.If you are a Vietnam veteran this is a must have movie to add to your movie collection.Siskel and Ebert gives this movie "Two Thumbs Up".Once you see it,you will see why. This movie not only gives detail account from actual combat footage from ...

  • awesome documentary.

Awesome documentary, great background music.Support your local POW/ MIA Vivid account of life of Grunts and all Armed forces involved in that big mess called Vietnam. We lost a hell of a good kids out there, some of them wich gave it all and some died unnecesarily. Hard lessons learn on a different type of warfare, where the enemy was 360! no front line to speak of. My hat goes off and my condolences to all whom lost some one on this conflict. Visit the Vietnam Memorial up on DC, if you get a chance, it is impresive!

  • Heartfelt emotions with an educational timeline, but slanted manipulation!

War is hell, and this DVD is full of tragedy. I'm very disappointed that it is so slanted... leaning heavily on the lies propagated by the media, who claimed the VC were friends of villagers, and neighbors. In truth, the VC were sadistic murderers who extorted food and money for the North! On too many occasions the VC would "open up" on US patrol boats, then we would fire back...unleashing hell on the area. Then, pulling in to shore is when the eternal shock of reality rips out your heart, when you discover the VC had herded dozens of children and elderly into the area, first. Try to express seeing the 4 or 5 year olds, you just killed, floating between the mangrove roots as you search in vein for the enemy. There are 'only' pieces, of all those innocent victims, ...
