About this product

Product Information

Milos Foreman's ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, based on the novel by Ken Kesey and the play by Dale Wasserman, presents a biting and ultimately tragic satire about mental institutions and the human spirit. A disturbing, witty, and electrifying drama, the film won the 1975 Academy Award for Best Picture. R.P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), a misbehaved con who shirks authority, finds himself in an asylum after faking insanity to get out of work detail in prison. The vivacious troublemaker soon finds himself in a worse kind of prison--one presided over by the repressed, terrifyingly quiet Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), whose set of rules and regulations are meant to suppress patients' psychotic outbursts, and their spirits. It's not long before McMurphy is reaching out to his new inmates, trying desperately to bring life to an otherwise dead atmosphere. To Ratched, however, Nicholson's free spirit is as dangerous as a schizophrenic impulse. ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST is brilliantly acted by an ensemble that includes Brad Dourif, Christopher Lloyd, Vincent Schiavelli, and Danny DeVito.

    Great movie!

The DVD was in perfect condition, the sound and picture were awesome. The movie itself was excellent. Jack Nicholson's performance as the leading role was spot-on, as were the other actors. The movie may be a little creepy, and disturbing for some, but I enjoyed it , its a masterpiece!

  • Worthy of its rating

This has been buzzing around my ears among my friends and without a doubt; it is one of the best films of all time. Mixing mental health with humor is a tough brand to sell; come to fine out it took several years for this movie to be made. Kirk Douglas had bought the rights hoping to star in it himself, but struggled to find a studio who would produce it; his son Michael eventually did it, but had the foresight to stay off the screen. When you watch it, it's not hard to work out why no-one would touch it - it's subject matter was just too quirky and controversial for Hollywood in the 60s. The film was ideal for representing a burgeoning discontent with society during the post-Vietnam malaise; its audience, like its characters, was feeling enormous dissatisfaction with rules, authority, ...

  • One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest~One of the All-Time Best

Jack plays one of his earliest and greatest roles in this thought provoking film. He tries to get off the hook by playinf "crazy" and winds up paying for it by spending time in a mental institution. The ever memorable nurse cratchet who cuts him absolutely no slack, and is non-plused at his boyish pranks. Filmed on location, this is an all time classic must see film, and leaves a lasting impression. Nicholson at his finest, especially when he gives his goulish grins just before mis-behaving. (Makes you think he might not be acting!!)He tries to get his fellow innmates to join his rebellion against the establishment, but he is often caught and punished-including electic shock treatment! Rate this one "two thumbs up" 5 Stars *****

  • Best movie from a book. Ever.

I bought this recently because I loved it when it came out and I just wanted to see if it had aged well. It had. This is one of the best Jack Nicholson movies ever. One of the best movies ever made from a book and staying true to the book.

  • excellant title for an excellant movie

The cast was outstanding from the main character to the least character. Jack Nicholson leads the plot with an ease that shows what a tremendous actor he is. His part fit him to a"T". I've made the statement many times, that he plays a crazy man better than a crazy man would. Louise Fletcher is another part of this movie. A woman that you love to hate
