Those vocals...not much like them nowadays.
This is a great collection of material by the Pied Pipers. I'm only giving it a 'good' because there's no material with Frank Sinatra, who had the luxury of the Pied Pipers as a backing vocal group when he was a singer with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Some of the tracks feature Jo Stafford, which is as excellent as the Pied Pipers got, and a few feature the absolutely wonderful and overly talented Johnny Mercer singing lead. Mr. Mercer wrote many of the Piper's hits, and they can be found together on many collections on CD. I recommend this one simply because it's a good starting point. If you yearn for that sound of old, where vocal harmony ruled, get this CD.This is a great collection of material by the Pied Pipers. Great memory CD
My introduction to pop music was at an age of 6. Among my early recollection of pop singers, the close harmony of the Pied Pipers, and that great Jo Stafford voice. They were featured often on the Lucky Lager Dance time radio show of the top hits coming out on the powerful nighttime signal all up and down the west coast. Still recall drifting off to sleep with the glow of the golden dial of the floor model radio, listening to their sign-off theme..."Dream", by none other than the Pied Pipers. This CD has captured the great work with and without Stafford, and well captured my great memories of my awakening to the pop music culture, which led right into the horizon of rock and roll.
