About this product

Product Information

Ubisoft continues its resurrection of the classic 3DO series with this first-person role-playing release. Dark Messiah: Might and Magic features a campaign that begins 18 years after Heroes of Might and Magic V. Single players take the role of Sareth, to wield both might and magic against orcs, goblins, trolls, dragons, an undead horde, and other minions of the Dark Messiah who threatens the world of Ashan. Built on Valve's Half-Life 2 "Source" game engine, Dark Messiah: Might and Magic aims to offer smooth action in a game world rich with detail. <br> <br>The game's multiplayer modes support up to 32 players. Along with the obligatory "Deathmatch" and "Team Deathmatch" modes, the multiplayer arena includes a "Crusade" mode that emphasizes teamwork in multi-match competition. In "Crusade," players choose one of five character classes, such as warrior or mage. Throughout the game, there are opportunities to increase characters' skills as they complete battles. After each round, a "dynamic campaign" feature determines the next map's location, as well as the items and skills you can gain between rounds, by analyzing completion statistics from the previous conflict. <br> <br>"Crusade" mode creates a tug-of-war battle style by moving the next skirmish closer to the stronghold of the last skirmish's loser. When one team wins, the battle is moved away from its stronghold, but if the team loses the next conflict, the following battle moves back to the middle. The game ends when one stronghold is destroyed, or when a team loses all of its tickets. Tickets are a type of death card, and every time a player is killed or loses control of a spawn point, a ticket is taken away. After a campaign is completed, all experience for each character is set back to zero.

  • A FPS game in the fantasy world.

Dark Messiah offers an interesting premise -- an FPS action game set in a fantasy world where you can use melee weapons in addition magic and stealth elements. The game starts enough well enough showcasing the graphically prowess of the SOURCE engine and a taste of the melee combat along with the physics elements (for example you can kick your enemies into spiked walls stragitically placed.) However once the novelty wears off, the fighting mechanics along with poor level design makes everything feel mundane. I should rephrase that. Most of the levels are very interesting; it is just the way you go through them fighting the same enemies. However it is not all run and gun *ahem* slash. From time to time, the game does show some exciting game play elements and shows the game could have been, ...

  • Pretty Good

I completed this game a while ago and am going to play it through again at least one more time. The single player combat is EXCELLENT, you can hit an enemy's sword with your sword and it will block it, Weapons don't just fly through each other, and chopping off someone's head or arm is pretty dramatic. there are multiple varieties of moves you can do with each weapon, not just hack and slash, that won't work, I do like the kicking attack, I do wish they would make Open world Games with this Combat style, This is a linear gameplay style and you pretty much have to go where they want you to, But I think the combat makes up for that, There is Not an amazing amount of diversity when is comes to enemies, but Cutting off one guys arm and another's leg at the same time makes up for it. The ...

  • A well posished game overall.

Gameplay: Fun and complex fighting system that involves timing, direction, movement and where your aiming at. I found every now and then i'd just go back and play parts again because the fighting was so fun. Graphics. Exellent graphics and the textures are very high resolution. Almost everypart of the game features high quality IMO. If you played the demo, thats the kind of quality level design you'll see pretty much throughout. The reflections, and "shinyness" of the armour/ swords and level are really interesting to look at. The shawdowing is also the best i've seen and really makes for some nice views. On high settings, you can see the shawdows of NPC's rendered farther out then i've ever seen. The only problem with the graphics, is that it requires a hefty system and i really think ...

  • Might & Magic... minus the Dark the Messiah!

Really good game with a detailed story line. Worth the coins if your considering getting it. I won't blow the story for those of you who have not played it yet. Suffice it say that the "darkness" of the main character is not all that dark. I even found it amusing at various points of the game. Any game that can make you scared, laugh, and be surprised is a good game in my book. It's definitely playable MANY times over at least three so you can experience all the different classes at your disposal and the different endings. Cheers! -Stratotanker

  • This is just what I was looking for: FANTASTIC!

I'm getting older, and I don't have time for all-night raids or 1000 commitments to MMO's anymore. But I still had the craving for some quality RPG goodness. Let me tell you, this game hit the spot. Yes, it's a little short, but I loved every second of it. Keep in mind that this is NOT like Morrowind or Baldur's Gate. It's a linear FPS set in a fantasy world: it's basically Half Life 2 with swords and magic. And yes, it works. And yes, it's awesome. As long your expectations are in the right place before you play, you really can't go wrong with this game. I absolutely loved it, and I am only heartbroken that it got such negative reviews from people expecting it to be a slow dungeon crawler. You can buy it for next to nothing on Amazon or Ebay these, so do yourself a favor: buy ...
